Hey,

So ive had to revert back to my 1050ti, and was wondering.. I bought this GPU awhile ago, for like 130$ CAD (that should say how old it is)

but ive never understood or noticed,

What is the diffrince between like a smaller card the "minis" vs the Full sized cards, with multipule fans? Is there a difference in clock speeds or something?

Normaly the minis are much cheaper then the full sized cards.

This is the mini 1050 I have. Here.

10-20MHz maybe, to avoid excessive throttling (not in a 1050 though, it doesn't overheats that much)

mini cards are designed to fit mATX or ITX builds, same with the low profile cards

ASUS X470-PRO • R7 1700 4GHz • Corsair H110i GT P/P • 2x MSI RX 480 8G • Corsair DP 2x8 @3466 • EVGA 750 G2 • Corsair 730T • Crucial MX500 250GB • WD 4TB

For the lower power cards not much really.

the minis tend to run hotter and thermal throttle due to the small cooler. which is why you never recommend a 1060 mini

They don't thermal throttle.

Not even to avoid throttling. That's just marketing so there is still some incentive to buy the more expensive coolers.

That's an F in the profile pic

What the hell are you playing? I just cant see it being possible. 1060s wont stay at 40 degrees even when idle. I doubt that 1050ti is that cool.

They do throttle. If you take something like zotac 1060 mini and put it under high load it downclocks because of temps. Most cards have default limit at 83 degrees. If they go past they downclock. Then there is gpu boost 3.0. You wont get same performance with full size card and mini. It is not just marketing. The coolin is just one thing. Many other things are to be considered e.g. quality of pcb.

Sorry, did not notice that.

Something is wrong I can tell you. Those temps are wrong. That card should be at 60-70 degrees under load unless you are playing in freezer.

Well yea. You asked mini vs full versions. So I tried to explain that there is difference. Then I was just shocked when I saw the temp. Just saying that I am almost sure that that card does not have 40 degrees under load. I do not know what causes those faulty readings maybe some previous drivers are messing with it or something. I just wanted you to know that there is a difference and I do not want you to male bad decision when or if the time comes for you to buy a new card.

Well the OP has a nice 460X case, yeah a full size GPU is gonna overclock better, but a 1050Ti doesn't get that hot.

Not sure how it's staying at 40C under load though.

is that u in ur picture... and yea ur right x

It's a 1050ti... my laptop keeps it at 53C while gaming. It's not thermal throttling

So your laptop isn't a laptop correct? it's a desktop with 1050 mini in it correct?

becuase i know there's no way someone just tried to justify giving bad advice because their totally different machine doesn't have an issue.

give me a 1050 and 5 mins and i'll overheat it real quick.
