Xbox one controller. How does the headphone jack work?

Gdourado

Hello, how are you?

I currently have a build with a Z370n wifi.

The board has a 1220 audio codec and also an on-board headphone amp.

But for convenience I would like to game with headphones but plug them to my Xbox one controller.

I have the Xbox one controller version 2 with the USB wireless adapter, also the second version, the smaller one.

If I plug the headphones to the controller, how does that work?

Is the sound still processed by the 1220 chip?

That is the dac even if the headphones are plugged to the controller?

But the headphone amp is bypassed?

Is there a loss in audio quality?

Thank you.

Best regards

AFAIK, they amp/dac in the controller will be doing the majority of the processing and its pretty terribad.

its nice for using discord, or teamspeak....but for game audio its complete trash.

also, if you didnt know, if you get the keyboard addon it will function as a normal keyboard when the controller is on, and you still retain the audio jack for headphones.
