My 1050 ti needs PSU pcie power? I thought 1050ti's didn't

So I bought a scrapyard wars type computer for 1080p gaming. I don't do much gaming so 1080p is good enough for me. One guy sold me a whole package 2nd gen intel i5, monitor, periphs. etc for $100. It had a terrible graphics card so I replaced it with a GeForce® GTX 1050 Ti G1 Gaming 4G with the highest OC boost clock they make of 1506 MHz. It was on sale so yay! (I live in rural idaho without any second hand market for GPUs. I read that 1050tis don't need 6pin psu power, but mine does apparently. I booted up and I got a terminal type text message saying it needed 6pin power. It works great, but I'm just wondering what is up with it b/c i thought it got all the power it needed through the PCI slot.

My two guesses on why my 1050ti needs external power:

My board is a OEM board with only PCI 2.0.  Does it need 3.0/ does 3.0 carries more amps? or

do different partner manufacturers have different requirements / nonreference faster cards may require more power?

Also don't hate on my budget 1080p scrapyard wars computer. I got it all for $270.

the 1050 (non ti) is the card that uses minimal power.

Oh thanks. I missed the difference.

Just make sure, if you do get another PSU, don't cheap out.

As you found out, there are some 1050Ti that require external power. It is up to the manufacturer to decide if they will put external power or not.

Also, PCIe 2.0 doesn't matter for the 1050TI.

At what card would PCIe 2.0 cause a bottleneck?

Oh yeah don't worry. My PSU I got in the Scrapyard wars PC was a good corsair around 400 or 500 W. (I can't remember and I'm at work away from it.

1080 (Ti) and above, although the difference isn't that huge in games, like single digit percent. Difference is more noticeable in GPU memory sensitive applications.
