It's been a slow process, but i've finally just about finished upgrading my new rig. I'm now ready to sell my old pc (or at least whats left of it). I'm wondering what people think it's worth or what i should try to sell for.

I'm not sure if i should try to sell what's left of it together as a unit, since it's an M-ITX build and those are fairly unique, or sell the parts individually. It doesn't have any drives since those followed me to my new build & it does not have a GPU, since i sold that when i upgraded to a new one.

The components are:

ASUS Z97-I Plus

Intel 4690K

Corsair Vengeance Pro (2x8) 2400mhz DDR3

Corsair H55

Corsair SF450

Silverstone RVZ01

I'm hoping to maybe get ~$400 for it, maybe more. The parts are fairly old (i first built this pc in 2015) but the components still perform fairly well. The 4690K handled overclocking very well, i could get to 4.5ghz on all cores and barely increase voltage. The case also provided surprisingly good thermals despite the small form-factor. Since it's an ITX build, i think i could make more money if i keep the parts together. In my personal experience, people seem to really like small form-factor builds. But, i think i might have a better chance of actually selling the components if i were to sell them individually. I think people might get turned off by the 450W power supply. It provided plenty for me when i used the build, but i don't think people would like it. People may also not realize how expensive SF power supplys cost.

What do you think? Any recommendations on how i should sell or prices i should ask would be greatly appreciated

I've buy a rig like that for maybe 300-350 USD. The real deal breaker is the lack of GPU and storage.

I've thought about maybe buying a nice WD sata drive just to accommodate for that, but I'm not sure if i'll find someone willing to buy it in the first place. It would feel like a waste of money to me. The case itself, i've seen on ebay for no less than around $90 US. Most of them don't come with the power supply either. Do you think it would make more sense to sell the RAM by itself, sell the CPU by itself, and sell the case, mobo & power supply together?

I wouldn't sell separate parts like that unless I bundled some, such as the CPU, motherboard, and RAM all together, and the case and PSU together.

Obviously you could choose to part it out if you wanted, but that's how I'd do it.

I doubt it's better to sell the parts seperately. It's more probable you will have luck selling it as a complete system, 4th gen i5's are really cheap these days, so is DDR3.

i thought RAM was still overpriced, DDR4 or not. I mean i haven't looked at DDR3 prices any time recently, but last i checked they were still in fairly high demand. If thats no longer the case, it probably would make the most sense to try to sell everything together

Ram is a bit overpriced IMO. (Before the price hike, 8GB DDR4 could be as low as 30 USD.)

as crunchy dragon said, lack of the GPU & hard drive kinda hinders it.

Would it be best to sell as a whole or bundle certain parts together? I don't have a specific price goal, but i'd like to sell before value depreciates further. Not too upset about not having a gpu to pair with the machine. I sold in the winter when GPUs were heavily inflated & did pretty well

If you just want money & don’t care, sell the whole system for like 200-300 USD. It’ll move & now you have 200-300 dollars.

If you want to optimize for most money, I can’t help you as I don’t know for sure.

Oh boy. Threads like this really aren't useful at all.

  1. Go to your local classifieds
  2. Compare pricing
  3. Price accordingly
  4. Sell
  5. Profit

What you can sell your items for varies wildly depending on where you live. You really owe it to yourself to figure out what items are selling for around you, and then base the pricing off of that. If you're selling online, check out the Reddit Hardware Swap; they have a price request thread, and you can also compare pricing for what's currently listed there. You've been given pricing by a few people already that's quite different. I personally wouldn't pay anywhere near $400 USD for something of that age, since a $100 i3 beats it. H55 is a meh cooler, DDR3 isn't really that expensive if you look for it; I can often find 8GB for $40 Canadian.

I'd say something like that would be worth maybe $400 or so if in good condition. ($50 Mobo, $150 CPU, $60 RAM, $40 AIO, $50 PSU, and $50 Case)

I'm planning on selling something similar in the future as well. (i5 4690K, MSI Z97-G55 SLI, 4x4GB HyperX Fury Black 1600MHz DDR3, Cryorig C7, Corsair CX600M, Corsair Carbide 230T, Sapphire Radeon HD 7770 Vapor-X)

Ive actually gotten useful info here. My main concern was wether or not i should sell my parts together or individually. That got answered. Why are you here if you're only going to be critical? This is not constructive

Even if they're in the same country, prices vary greatly from town to town, so it's still not that accurate. For example where I live now I can sell a GTX 980 for $400, in the last city I was in I'd get maybe $250. Same country. Different prices.

Not only that, people tend to give prices that they would pay; often lower than what you can actually get, sometimes by a wide margin.

Thats fair. I'll most likely try to sell on ebay since i can reach more potential buyers there. There'll be people who realize my parts have lost value due to age, but I'd also like to think that people with a lot of experience in computers aren't shopping for mid/lower-end PCs. From what I've seen on this thread I'll probably start on ebay with a starting bid of $300 USD & maybe a buy-now option of $450 in case someone feels compelled. I'll try selling elsewhere if no ones interested.

Thanks for your time & sorry i snapped back at you earlier. I appreciate the input

Just keep in mind that selling on eBay comes with a lot of extra fees.

I've been building business models around eBay, and it only takes like 1,500 items sold before selling in a brick and mortar store (and all the fees that come along with it, including staffing costs) is actually cheaper.

Reddit is probably your best bet, provided you're in the US. Huge community, if you price fair items can sell within minutes.
