Hi, I have a custom loop with an i7 7820X and an Asus Strix X299-e. I wanted to clean the loop, while I was at it, I also installed a Direct Die Frame from der8auer. Several hours later, after refilling the loop, I tried to start the system. It immediately triggered a power failure. Upon further inspection, I noticed that there was water leaking from the CPU block.

I disassembled the System again and let all the parts dry for 72 h. I build a temporary test bench with just 1 GPU, power supply, CPU, MB and Ram.  This time the power did not go out, but all the board showed was 00. The CPU did get warm, but nothing else happened. I turned the system off and inspected the CPU, in case a damaged a Capacitor or something while installing the direct die frame, but I can't see any obvious damage on the CPU. I also looked at the CPU socket, but I couldn't find anything there either. So now I'm kinda Helpless TBH...

Did you pull the CMOS battery while drying?

No, but afterwards.

There are 2 dark marks on the contact pad. Possibly some smudges or something.

I think that's only on the photo tho. Lighting wasn't that good :/

That code means cpu, board, or both might be faulty

Yes, but I think the board is ok, because it tries to boot, then shows a red light for CPU and 00. But then again, the CPU looks fine as well...

Doesn't sound good.  If you have another CPU to try you could determine if it's the motherboard or not, but I'm willing to bet you don't have a spare as they are $$$$$$.

Although, on second thought, you could potentially damage the spare CPU installing it in a damaged board...

Yeah, these CPUs are so expensive...I was playing with the Idea to buy like a 7800X and try if it would work again...but I don't want to kill that as well....

Relid, reseal and throw a RMA request in.

If you reseal it properly, Intel wouldn't even know.

Who knows, you might get a better overclocking processor too.

I actually thought about that.
