3200mhz ram compatibility on x370

Been a while since I've posted, and I've been out of the loop for a while now. I watched reviews on the 1st and 2nd gen ryzen chips, but didn't really watch any videos on the motherboard. I have time this summer, and its been 5 years since I built the pc in my signature, so I was hoping to move to a ryzen 2700x based rig while I have the time and money.

 

I saw in a few places that higher speed ddr4 dimms were hit or miss with x370, and was wondering if this is still the case. Definitely seems like something that can be improved with bios updates, and one of the reviews I read on the board i"m looking at (ASUS ROG Crosshair VI Hero AM4) confirmed this, but he didn't go into detail about the frequencies he was able to hit on the ram.

Usually that's what the RAM is rated to, and it includes an XMP profile to reach that speed easily (apparently you should tweak timings yourself if you can, but IDK how to do that). Like mine is 3000MHz, but runs at the stock 2133 unless I use the XMP profile.

And would getting an x370 board for a 2700x be a red flag? As far as I understand, as long as the boards have had the bios updates post 2nd gen ryzen launch, it should be fine. 

The x370 boards are having pretty good sales on newegg right now, which is why I'm gravitating towards them.

That shouldn't be a red flag, but X470 would have better compatibility out of the box if you can afford one.

 

If not, then X370 is a pretty good option.
