I want to play at 1080p@144hertz

Should I buy a used card or a new one.

If so please suggest one

Benefits of used cards

  • Cheaper than new
  • Lots available

Negatives of used cards

  • Ex mining cards - They might've been used 24/7 to do calculations. Not good for the GPU
  • Warranty is most likely expired

Used is great. Mining doesn't have that much of an affect. What card to get depends on budget. You want 980ti/1070/ Fury X/Vega 56 performance for 1080p144. A 1060/580 will do the job but not at very much beyond 60

Fake GPU as well. If you buy a used GTX 970, you might get a GTX 960 with a GTX 970 BIOS flash or a knockoff Chinese GPU.

gtx 980 will do with lowered settings, 980ti for high settings.

Get a used 980 Ti or 1070, or a Fury X if you can live with 4GB less VRAM

if buy used make sure has second hand warranty. EVGA now requires invoice for any second hand GPU after May 2018

Has anyone actually proved that mining reduces the lifespan of a GPU? I know that might sound like a stupid question, but I just haven't seen anyone prove it.
