This isn't the first post I wanted but here goes.

For the past few weeks, randomly, I will open something, close something, or do nothing at all and windows will slow down to such a crawl I can't do anything till I restart the computer than it's fine for awhile longer. Sometimes a few days sometimes a few minutes. Task manager show's everything as normal, CPU usage normal and low, memory usage normal and low, and no strange program in processes or services. I built this computer at the end of last February and have reinstalled Win7 once when I bought an SSD a few months ago for the boot drive.

Computer Specs:

Mobo: ASUS RoG Maximus IV Extreme-z

CPU: Intel i7-2700k

RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2x8GB) 10-10-10-27

GPU: ASUS GTX 570 DirectCU II

Boot Drive: Kingston HyperX 3K 240GB

Storage: Western Digital Caviar Black 1.5TB

PSU: Corsair HX1050

There has been other problems lately too such as the computer completely freezing when I open SpeedFan and it's scanning the system and Speccy also when it is scanning the system. Thanks in advance if anyone can help.. T.T

Well, I had this exact same problem too a few weeks ago (right after Win8 launched, weird huh?), I did have a HDD then, but exchanged it for a SSD and reinstalled Win7 last week, no problems since then. So as a last resort a reinstall of windows might do the trick :)

@runningoec : My drivers are all upto date minus the latest release of the GeForce drivers.

@UberFefa : No I have roughly 86gig's left on the SSD after rounding down.

@nilsepils : Yeah I was kind of hoping I wouldn't have to resort to that, but I've kept the win7 disk in the drive this whole time just in case. =C

About two weeks ago my PC was acting the same way, turns out I had I think three infected files. So I ran a free scanner, and when it was done my computer was back to normal, also it removes the files when it is done.

Scanner Link - http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner/

Click the blue Run ESET Online Scanner button, download and run. It took me about four hours to complete.

Hope this helps.

Try Re-installing windows again. Now you have an SSD boot drive as long as your data is on your HDD. it shouldn't be to much of a hassle.

So your running 3 different AntiVirus Programs? Make sure MS Secuity essentials is not installed. (my buddy installed it once when not looking at his updates and did the same thing). And then remove them. If one or more AVs are scanning at the same time can cause some serious issues. If still no good, run a HDD test on the 1.5TB drive(or unplug it from the mobo). If windows is trying to read to drive (like indexing) and the drive is bad it can lock up everything. It might be windows, but a reinstall is a last resort.

if you have all these problems since you got your SSD, sounds to me that either your SATA controller isn't set to AHCI mode, Or the SSD is faulty.

By the way, good luck RMA Kingston. I tried with my USB key, I got a person screaming at me: "No warranty in Canada. Check website!!!", and hanged up on me.. even before I could explain my problem, I just said that I was in Canada.

And there is nothing about warranty service in Canada on the site.

I could have be unlikelly.. maybe someone got fired today and his doing his last day of work or something... I might want to try another time.

UPDATE-

I have Tried each ram stick individually, and in different dimm slots, I did a Win7 repair install, and it still is happening. Though with 1 stick installed I can open speccy without my computer completely freezing, but if I open Speedfan it still completely freezes the computer and I have to hold power down for 10 seconds to shut off.. My next step is to completely wipe the drive and reinstall. If it still does it I will contact ASUS about RMAing the mobo. Oh and I ran memtest86 for 12 hours, got 3 errors, but it's not consistent with the problems still happening even with 1 stick at a time, and what are the odd of both sticks failing the same exact way?

The stupid forum doesn't provide e-mail notification on replies, and post gets lost all the time. Like this one I just types appeared in Latest activity but not on the Post section, go figure. Linus should have used the non-Beta vBulletin to be honest, this one tries to be jack of all trade, yet it is master at none. Anyway,

Try boosting the voltage of your RAM a tad.

Also, as you sure that your set X.M.P (eXtreme Memory Profile) to Profile 1 in your BIOS/UEFI settings?

If that doesn't help, we need to exclude the SSD. Install Windows on your HDD, see if it works. (no need to activate Windows 7).

Yea. In the official vBulletin release (not this one - beta), it auto-subscribed to you as you participate in it. Now it's manual.
