Macbook Pro alternative

Hello guys,

For my upcomming education they recommend me to get a Macbook Pro, but as we all know they ain't the cheapest. I'm allowed to use Windows if I want though. So that can eliminate some costs. I'm looking for a mobile and easy to transport laptop that packs the power to edit photos, design, code and if possible can edit video's. My budget is max 1700 euro. If really needed I can go over budget a little bit. For anyone interested. I'm based in The Netherlands. I've seen the HP Spectre as a good canidate. Also maybe the Razer Blade. Any recommendations? Would love to hear from you guys soon. Have a good one!

Avoid the Razer Blade. They run hot and have too many QC issues and too inconsistent customer support to properly recommend.

CPU wise, I would recommend the i7 8750H. The 6-cores would help for video editing and whatnot although I do heavily recommend undervolting (it's easy to do and there's pretty much no risk) to have it run cooler.

Normally, the Dell XPS15 comes to mind but the laptop has had VRM issues for 3 years now, so it's becoming harder to recommend.

I'll page @ZM Fongto help out

The Workhorse (AMD-powered custom desktop)

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X | GPU: MSI X Trio GeForce RTX 2070S | RAM: XPG Spectrix D60G 32GB DDR4-3200 | Storage: 512GB XPG SX8200P + 2TB 7200RPM Seagate Barracuda Compute | OS: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro

The Portable Workstation (Apple MacBook Pro 16" 2021)

SoC: Apple M1 Max (8+2 core CPU w/ 32-core GPU) | RAM: 32GB unified LPDDR5 | Storage: 1TB PCIe Gen4 SSD | OS: macOS Monterey

The Communicator (Apple iPhone 13 Pro)

SoC: Apple A15 Bionic | RAM: 6GB LPDDR4X | Storage: 128GB internal w/ NVMe controller | Display: 6.1" 2532x1170 "Super Retina XDR" OLED with VRR at up to 120Hz | OS: iOS 15.1

The XPS15 9570 is becoming harder to recommend due to VRM cooling issues that bizarrely exists for 3 years now.

With that said, the i7 8750H is probably the way to go

Forgot to ask, what are your preferred weight and battery life?

I would like it to be light. Battery life doesn't matter.

If battery life isn't important, I would suggest TongFang GK5CN6Z. Good build quality and cooling. Get the 144Hz panel and 8750H+1060
