need constructive criticism

So im thinking of making a 700 ish build for 1080p 144hz gaming and these are my specs. (Here's a PCPartPicker list if you prefer that: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/jWX7vn)

Any of the parts that have been manually entered are being bought from micro center, or the 980ti is being bought off of craigslist.

Parts:

Ryzen 5 1600 with wraith stock cooler

ASRock - AB350 Pro4 ATX AM4 Motherboard ( 200 for both motherboard and CPU are in a bundle)

$81 for 8 gigs of Gskill aegis ram at 3000mghz ( single channel but going to upgrade later on)

40 bucks for a 1tb hard drive

$310 for an evga superclocked + acx 2.0 980ti

30 bucks for the cooler master masterbox lite

and 40 bucks for an evga 600 watt bq 80 plus bronze power supply

Going to add an ssd just not sure which one yet.

I would get a 8400 and a z370 mobo for upgradeablity and a cryorig h7 and 16 gigabyte of the crucial ballistix ram. Also get one of their inland ssds for really cheap

If you can negotiate on the 980Ti, I would offer around $220 - $250.

I suggest you get dual channel memory as Ryzen will benefit from it.

A Kingston A400 240GB SSD is a good budget choice.

Case has really shit airflow.

I dont want an 8400 since i want to overclock. Also i am going to get 16 gigs of ram very soon just gotta wait for my paycheck to kick in.

I will try to knock the price down on that 980ti, just thought that was a good deal but im new to older gen hardware and how much they go for used. I looked into that ssd and I think ill get that one. For the case, i just chose a random cheap one that kinda looked cool. :P mind suggesting one?

Also, thanks for all of your help.

Hmm, the 8350k looks promising the only problem I have with it is the core count.

EDIT: omfg im an idiot didnt realize its a 6 core 12 thread thing. Might go for it :)

4c is all you need for gaming, its basically a 7600k

not sure what the cost difference would be, but Asrock just released the B450 Pro4, which might be slightly more future-proof.

Intel vs AMD... the core count isn't that big a deal. most games mainly put the demand on the GPU, and the cpu has a much easier job.

if you've got a paycheck coming, and you're planning to do immediate upgrades... sit on it until the check comes in. being able to invest more at once will work better overall than buying cheap core components, which will eventually limit how much you can upgrade.

in fact, there's a lot of stuff rumored to release before the end of summer (eg, Nvidia's newest video card series). if you can wait a couple of months, and save up during that time, you might end up with a significantly more powerful rig for a similar cost... or at least you'll be able to save up and invest more into it.

It's a 4 core 4 thread CPU in 2018 and it costs like $160, vs like Ryzen 3 at $99, and a 6 core 12 thread CPU in the R5 1600/2600. Or even the i5 8400.

Also probably go for the R5 2600 at this point even if it costs a bit more. Easier to hit higher frequencies and it has better memory support. B450 motherboards are coming very soon as well.

So for the motherboard I will definitely take a look into that. For the cores, I didn't mention this earlier but I would like to do light video editing and recording clips of gameplay for which I would need more than 4 cores. The paycheck that I've got coming is going to put the ram higher, but I'm going to be buying a car soon so I can't spare any more than that. For the stuff releasing in a couple of months, I will try to wait, but if it doesn't come in November or December I will probably just go for the build.

Oop my bad, I meant to tell you to look at the description where it says the clock speed and the amount of cores and threads, also I think i didnt get a good screenshot last time here's a better one.

That is likely a typo. If you check on Intel's website, it's a 4 core 4 thread rebranded 7600K. The Ryzen 5 1600 beats it in a landslide in most games.

Go for the R5 1600, or if you have some extra cash go for the R5 2600 for higher overclock.

Ah. Didn't know that and was getting over hyped at how intel of all brands puts a high clocked 12 thread chip for only 160 dollars :P

I hope you have a fixed budget and purchase timeframe in mind and not let people steer you off course

Gonna be getting lots of suggestions that imply spending more. And then they will tell you to save up when you say it exceeds budget

Best to only ask for help when you about to make the purchase. Then you won't get idiots telling you to 'wait for X' or 'save up more'

LOL. And I do have a relatively fixed budget with maybe give or take a few bucks but the time frame is just this year. People telling me to wait within my time frame I can get, but the save up for more isn't really an option.

Thanks!

Hahaha - this is Intel, not going to happen. Just one year ago they were putting out $180 CPUs compatible with a platform where motherboards start at $220.

Back to the point - stay with the build you were originally planning, unless you have the cash for a R5 2600.

Change the PSU for a CX450M.

Yeah will definitely do that but for the power supply, my build is estimated to draw 412 watts and a 450 watt would barely suffice.

if you want to get into video, i would definitely consider @Streetguru's advice about bumping it up to the R5 2600 (maybe even the X). you'll definitely want the extra cores and speed from it, plus it'll last you longer. you'll also probably want a lot more HDD, and a lot more video card (1080p is starting to fade out of fashion for video).

(ps, @Streetguru the B450's are starting to come out -now-. newegg already has a couple from Asrock and Gigabyte.)

if you just want a system for bashing around in games at 1080p, what you've got will do... and it'll probably handle video recording/streaming not bad, but you might notice some performance bumps.

considering your budget, and lack of room to expand it... you might want to wait until at least end of august, and check out the "back to school" specials at your local big box store. sure there's a bit of bloatware to uninstall... but with the sales, the buying power of those big box stores, and a little care and patience, you'll probably find a system in your budget range that will completely bulldoze over the specs you've laid out. just make sure it actually -has- a discrete video card.

i know there's a lot of hate on the big box budget builds, but once you dig out the bloatware, hardware is hardware. and at the low end of the budget spectrum, the big box stores can leverage their buying power to pack more hardware in than we can buy piece-by-piece.

The PSU calc isn't very accurate your system is going to draw like 200-300W under a gaming load at max, probably just stick to the decent 600W in any event.
