I really like several of Raidmax's PSU's....but I've heard/seen some bad reviews. However, there's not one company out there without at least a few bad reviews. So I'm wondering how many people on here have had a good experience with Raidmax, or bad, or known someone who had a Raidmax PSU. I'm looking for facts, not speculation.

I honestly didnt know they were still in business.

Back in the day most people knew raidmax for cheap cases with borderline criminally cheap power supples with thin gauge copper cables. So im not too sure what they do these days but I wouldn't ever buy anything modern from raidmax with their crap track record.

There's one model that's really good... but everything else is trash.

Ya, go to their webpage and look at their PSU's....they got several really cool looking models. They are the only company actually taking time to put some creativity and flare into their PSU's. I really want one, but w/ their history, not sure I want to shell out the extra bucks.

Of course performance trumps looks, but why cant we have BOTH!? ;o

And it's not just the LED fan, did you see this design --> http://www.raidmax.com/psu_rx-600af-b.html

I'm going w/ an affordable case which has no PSU shroud so I'm really on the edge as far as paying more for aesthetics.

And only 38A on the 12V rail to blowup your PSU just in case your system actually need 600W!

that's better, unless of course you're looking to overheat the PSU and hard drives by adding a big chunk of plastic or metal over them, case manufacturers really care about components nowadays huh

also , every power supply on their site is simply a normal black power supply with a different fan and sticker. I see nothing design wise that is different from any other manufacturer.

you need to understand that if you're spending your money , spend it wisely

so far , only the design of raidmax is what appeals to you. even though their design is based on options that can be changed on better power supplies.

You can buy a good quality power supply , then put any fan you want in it , any stickers , paint the chassis any color , and sleeve the cables any color you want. don't buy a junk power supply based on it's looks which is the only aspect of a power supply that can easily be changed by the user.

Do you know from personal experience they are junk, or what are you basing this statement on? I'm not sure people aren't just stereotyping because of a few bad apples... And maybe I should specify that I'm not OC'ing or running a demanding rig...my system's estimated usage is only 329W.

No one here has the expensive tools to test PSUs, except for maybe @jonnyGURU and maybe one other.

But from the reviews ive read, all they make is junk. Ancient, cheap, group regulated designs, some missing crucial protections.

oh the caps are here

Even a TR2 500 is better than that cobra thing

an 8-pin for the CPU and TWO 6+2 connectors with 38A in a 400W group regulated board... yup, that's real good quality right there

working at a repair shop I've seen a bunch end up like this because of high TDP CPUs and graphics cards, mostly cheap chinese stuff

burnt_pc_51.jpg

Anyway, the TR2 is still being sold here as a "gaming PSU" just like Sentey junk units (not the good one) and a few local brands, unaware users always get this mostly because of the low price and end up with dead boards or fried graphics cards

Depends on the model.  Most of them are complete garbage.

They do have cool looking units because they spend most of their money on tooling; not what's on the inside.  Because they know most ignorant shoppers will buy it because it looks cool... even if it blows their shit up.

Typically, Raidmax PSUs aren’t good. There are a few that have surfaced that are good, like this: http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story6&reid=470

But these arent good ones:

http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story6&reid=482

https://m.hardocp.com/article/2014/03/18/raidmax_cobra_power_500w_supply_review/9

I am sure there’s more, but finding them on my phone is tedious. Overall, I’d avoid raidmax.

If you want a good looking power supply, then here are some options:

SeaSonic FOCUS

SeaSonic PRIME

Corsair RMx

BitFenix Whisper

It would void your warranty, but you could replace the fans and repaint the PSU shrouds to your desire. But always get a quality PSU, because it’s the only part in your PC that can kill your PC, or in extreme measures, catch on fire.
