My new gaming laptop can barely play games

Hi!

I just bought a new Lenovo Legion Y520 with a i7-7700HQ GTX1050 and 4 gb ram and I have windows 10 64 bit installed, with every new driver for both intel and nvidia, and everything else, but I can not play games at all.
I bought this laptop,so when I go to college,I can play in my free time, because Im not gonna be home a lot, where my normal pc is.
The problem Im having is that no game runs smoothly,no overwatch or fortnite is playable, both of these games are lagging and can only be 'played' in the reeeally low quality's,but with only 10 fps.
My laptop is definitly more powerfull than that, but I have no idea why am I getting these awful fps numbers.
Legion Y520-15IKBN the name and the model number is 80WK009BHV
Will 8 gb ram solve my problem? Or is there any stuff i should worry about?

Well 4GB of RAM is a really limiting factor with most newer games. But Fortnite should not have issues with 4GB.

Run Fortnite.

Go to task manager, See if the game is using your Intel GPU or the 1050.

I had the same Issue.

i dont know if this applies for laptops but my friend had a similar issue on a pc and the thing that fixed it for him was enabling triple buffering.

it took us 2 hrs of trying random stuff we found online

4GB RAM and 1TB HDD are the issues. Mine has the same 4GB RAM and 1TB HDD, the user experience is just TERRIBLE. After upgrading to 8GB RAM and SSD, things run very smooth

Does it make a difference if you're on battery power or plugged into AC power? Asking because my Dell XPS 15 9560 has the same specs and runs games great when plugged into wall AC power because the power brick delivers 130W, while the battery can only deliver up to 90W of power I believe, thus making it slower for GPU performance when on battery.

However, I really do think that for some reason the nVidia drivers are not automatically switching over from the Intel HD drivers when running games. I'd ensure the latest GeForce Experience is installed, then ensure the latest nVidia drivers are installed, and finally the latest Intel HD Graphics drivers, then start mucking about with the settings.
