sure. What are your requirements? Budget? Size?

Do multiple systems need to access this? If not Id just get a usb external hdd.

what do you mean you don't want internet? You want it only accessable on your local network? Thats how the nas will work by default unless you change settings.

How much storage in tb?

How about something like this?

Recently I used external hdd for my backup and while I was creating windows installer for installing os to other system through usb. I accidentally formated my external HDD because it's external. That's why I need pc or a storage device for backup.

what did you think of the nas linked above. I think that would work well here. Easy to setup and use, fairly cheap, lower power. Just add drives.

Local network means it's needed a network to use or to configure it.

In my area the network charge is high and I don't have more use of internet. I am using my cellular network for my use.

that device doesn't use your internet at all and won't contribute to network charges at all. Its lan only by default

so you want a premade nas and build your own aswell.

What budget? Network speed?

Why not just go premade nas? they work much better for a use like this.

Does that include drives?

How about a intel celeron on lga 1151, a h310 motherboard, 4gb of ram 2 4tb hdds and a case + psu. Then put your favorite os on it(freenas, unraid, windows, ubuntu)

But really go premade nas here, its lower power, smaller, easier to use(you don't seem to know much and their harder to mess up) and have good preinstalled software.

How much space do you want? How many TB? That will help Electronics Wizardy better. I also agree with Electronics Wizardy that you should use a premade NAS as it would suit your needs better than one that you build yourself.

Workstation:

Intel Core i7 6700K | AMD Radeon R9 390X | 16 GB RAM

Mobile Workstation:

MacBook Pro 15" (2017) | Intel Core i7 7820HQ | AMD Radeon Pro 560 | 16 GB RAM

what do you want to backup? Normally just mount the file share on the system and use the  backup client on the system, like the one built into windows(look for backup + restore windows 7 if you using windows 7 or newer)

Also quote people please

So get a premade nas like the one above, or go diy(i wouldn't here though) and make a smb/cifs share and map the backup in windows to that. Thats simple and free and should work well here.

Agreed, prebuilt NAS would be a much better option.

Until something happened and you cant access your data.

I dont know if the are still sold but how about an HP Micro Server?

The are damn cheap and working good. If you want you can put an Rail Controler in and some "cheap" 1TB NAS HDDs.

Not a problem, restore backups.

All systems can fail and lose access to all data, you need to plan for that.

And most premade boxes are just running linux md raid so its pretty easy to get the data off of it.
