Media player for Mint Tara

I decided to ditch XP for good on my laptop and installed LM19 and so far it works great, installed browser, office suite, smb4k and other network related software to make it compatible with my LAN but I'm missing something really important: a music player. The one included simply refused to work so I uninstalled it (HDD space is limited) and got Clementine, which I know because of a friend, but it's too slow because of its GUI I believe.

I'm looking for something that can just play .wma and .mp3 files, no video or other formats are needed, GUI isn't important at all but it should be able to manage a library (browse files from the player itself) playlists are optional, it has to be lightweight and able to run with a 1.4GHz CPU and 1GB memory

Does VLC not work? Also I thought Mint came with the option to install 3rd party codecs.

Want to know which mobo to get?

Spoiler

Choose whatever you need. Any more, you're wasting your money. Any less, and you don't get the features you need.

Only you know what you need to do with your computer, so nobody's really qualified to answer this question except for you.

just tried, lags too much, takes like 30sec to start and the sound stutters or cuts. I know my laptop is slow but it shouldn't be that slow, XP player worked fine

What about MPlayer? It's included in puppy linux. If this doesn't work, you probably shouldn't use mint.

it did worked but had some extra stuff I don't need like video playback (mint already has its own video player)
