Looking For Laptop Suggestions

Hello. I'm going back to school come this January and one of the programs I'm enrolling in has a laptop requirement with minimum specs listed. Its been a few days and I'm not having any luck finding one that meets everything aside from unwieldy gaming laptops with poor battery life. I was hoping someone here in the LTT community could help me.

The minimum recommended hardware they listed are as follows:

• Intel I7 or AMD A10 processor or better with chipset that must support virtualization
• 16 GB of RAM
• 1 TB hard drive
• Ethernet Network Card
• Wireless Network Card
• One USB 3.0 port (two preferred)

If we could keep the cost below $2K CDN (just over $1500 USD) it would make it much more feasible but sales could always happen between now and January so suggest whatever you think is best.

There is a huge difference between an i7 (even a mobile one) and an A10.

Just one thing do not get a laptop with a HDD

 

Get an SSD no matter what.

Yes. Ok. Not many laptops come with an A10 anymore anyway. I would recommend intel. They are much better for laptops since ryzen laptops are pretty much all gaming focused because it's a new platform

A generic 1920x1080 60Hz screen is fine. I would prefer it be portable as I'll have to carry it with me on campus but decent battery life would be nice too. As for stores, I'm located in Canada so we have places like Best Buy, Staples, Canada Computers, Memory Express, The Source, etc.

Forgot to ask, what's your preferred display size? Also, can you accept gaming laptops?

A 15" screen would be ideal but I have used the Dell XPS 13 rather comfortably in the past.

I won't reject a suggestion purely based on it being labeled a "gaming laptop" but please do keep in mind I'll have to carry this with me all day on campus.

13/14 inch Ultrabooks then. I would suggest Lenovo Thinkpad T480
