Computer unresponsive after switching to ddr4

I recently upgraded from ddr3 to ddr4 and with that my computer has become unresponsive it doesn't sleep, restart, apps don't close or open after I've been using it and when I look in task manager it says that my cpu which is a I5-6600k not overclocked and I look through it and every app is at 0% usage, this problem only happened after I went to ddr4 the hour before it was fast and responsive and I have to use 1 stick of ram because 3 slots don't work and it won't post with 2 stick and I've tested both sticks, but I had to use one stick when I was using ddr3 because the other ram slots messed up.

Edit: any help is appreciated

what? o_O which motherboard are you using ?

you can't use DDR4 on a DDR3 slot, and vice versa.

There are a few DDR3-L motherboards that supports Skylake, but as far as I am concerned these motherboards do not support DDR4 so either ways yes you can't change your memory type at will like that without minding motherboard incompatibilities.

DDR3-L is different, it has the same pins as DDR3 and they fit and work together just fine, even in dual channel, but DDR4 is completely different, i think he messed up his RAM slots by forcing DDR4 into it.

very strange

Did you switch mobos or something?

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

Yeah a quick research on google reveals that the MSi z270 Gaming Plus has NO DDR3-L variant therefore it is literally impossible that your system was running off of DDR3 modules.

You have something messed up in there.

Exactly what I was about to say haha

The wedge is literally moved to prevent you from using non-DDR4, impossible to seat anything else....

Are you sure the other RAM was DDR3? I mean if you 100% know you were using it and it was working it has to have been DDR4.

I suppose he upgraded his memory, both before and after DDR4, and the new modules are somehow faulty (or the settings incorrect). That's the only way this whole thread would make any sense xD

@Spyarmf you need to give us proper system details, especially the ram sticks you use. You can use CPU-Z to get info on your RAM modules

I'm not using ddr3 on it I have compatible ram sticks that are ddr4 they are corsair lpx ddr4 I had a mobo before that was ddr3 with ddr3 ram  and I bought a new mobo and ram that are both ddr4

@Spyarmf which motherboard has broken memory slots then? DDR3 or DDR4 board? If DDR4 board then clearly the mobo is damaged and is probably the cause of your problem. From the way you describe your problem, it's very difficult to even tell WHAT the exact problem is.

But in my opinion:

If you have changed your motherboard, cpu and all, and now are trying to use your old OS installation... well that's probably why it doesn't work well. You should reinstall your operating system.

The ddr4 motherboard came with a bad slot

Research a process called RMA if you purchased new otherwise... lurk Ebay and other resellers of used products for a good deal on another DDR4 board and pray.
