We need to know the CPU model name (say, i5 6400) because frequency and core count tell very little about the CPU's performance

Also, that 1050ti bought used?

you could probably do with a better cpu as well. If you're on lga 1150, try to find an i5 4570, and if you're on lga1151, try an i5 7500. Both go really well with a 1050 ti, but you need a higher frequency to keep stuttering at bay.

And if you're using a core 2 quad, a 1050 ti might be a bit excessive.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

PSU tier list

How many watts do I need?

PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

Hello I have a low end gaming computer with a GTX 750TI and a quad core  Cpu  and saw a Gtx 1050ti  and was wondering if it would work and would u see improvement. My cpu is 2.5ghz

Probably best to get a modern CPU first given current GPU pricing. You'll be able to find cheaper GPUs soon enough anyways.

What's all your current hardware and your budget/country?

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

A core 2 quad basically maxes out its performance with the 1050 ti, so I guess it's good. However, you might see an equal if not bigger performance increase with a better CPU. I did some testing with a core 2 quad and 1050 ti and found a newer CPU will probably help more than a newer GPU. Try to find an i5 on ebay, with a good motherboard to go with it.

Here is my advice for the best upgrade path.

Look for a used dell workstation. These are normally only 2 or so years old and are retired corporate machines.

So it would normally have a 4th gen i5 or i7 in it.

8gb of ram

A decent sized 7200rpm drive or maybe even an ssd (if not you can put an ssd in one for like 45 bucks for a 240gb)

some have a lower grade gpu or use onboard graphics

The thing though... is these can be found all day from $100-$200. So if you pick up one of these and then toss in a 1050ti you have a nice gaming machine for a $200-$300 investment.

There is always the option to build a new budget machine, but often times it will cost you more for a lesser system than my suggestion above.

Actually looking at ebay if you are willing to go a little older to second gen I7-2600's then you can get a machine like I mentioned above for about $50. So that would put you at 200ish WITH a gpu upgrade

Agreed if you live in a country where these are common due to large business liquidations/etc.  The 2nd gen i7s seem to be the best value, but anything before skylake has the advantage of needing cheaper ddr3 ram.
