Why does opening Firefox take 4 sec?

Guest

Hi

So this may seem like a weird questions, expecially for people with HDD's, but:

I have a PC with a Kingston SA400 250gb SSD, with Windows 10 on it.(Connected over SATA 3)

Furthermore my PC specs are, Ryzen 7 1700, B350 motherboard, RX480.

Now when I open up firefox, it takes 3-4 Sec to load(2 Sec when I already opened it before).

THe reason I find this weird is because I have a SSD, and I read people opening it up in under a second, also I have a laptop that is capable of launching apps faster.

The same store for Windows Explorer(the file manager), takes 2 sec to load up.

Now what makes it even more strange, I can load firefox faster ON A HDD WITH UBUNTU!!

Can someone maybe explain why this is(because my laptop can load apps faster)?

Thx

Edit:

Also something I remembered:

The WHOLE FIrefox folder is 142MB, and I can read from my SSD at 450MB/s, so why it take so long?

You don't really have that high end SSD to begin with, furthermost it all depends on your OS condition, the way your system resources being used and so on... even the Firefox installation matters.

Also advertised speeds are near meaningless as it's never that black and white as there's a lot of forms of "reading".

How do I know what resources are used? When I open an app, the C: graph does pretty much nothing.

Would a SAMSUNG 860 EVO 500 GB be a better choice if I want to improve load speeds?(and the storage is also nice)

Yes, the 860 Evo is the best SATA SSD on the market other than the rather pointless 860 Pro

Also, how does it compare to those M.2 and such SSD's? I thought Linus said once they are faster.

Are they reliable?(Wont break faster, because they are smaller)

Oh, come on - 4 seconds cold start, if your Firefox data directory is over 142 MB, is pretty much ok. All plugins must starts, all cache data must be indexed etc.

Do you want make it faster? Uninstall all antivirus software, disable Defender by registry key and none of your FF files will be scan before open (including cache).

In my case FF starts with 2 seconds. Speed or security - your choice. And nothing is wrong with your computer, browsers (cold) startup time is important factor in tests that you can find on internet. Faster SSD gives you nothing.

4 second open time really isn't that bad. If you're really pressed about it, maybe try uninstalling browser plugins, clearing history, etc. Also make sure your Firefox version is up to date.
