Is an i7 7700k is still worth in 2018 gaming.

Go to solution Solved by AskTJ,

If buying new, it isn't worth it as there are better options like the i5 8600K at around the same price point, and will perform equally or better. If you can get a decent deal on the 7700K, go for it.

Hey there, so the scenerio come to a point where someone should have to giveaway i7 7700k or wait for cannon lake CPU's launch

The focus of the build is truly the or ultra gaming with @120p and some content editing, autocad, cam, opengl.

well i mean if it was given to you then you just got the best price for performance. you wont be significantly slower than others with the same core count or higher because intels single thread performance is remarkably good at keeping up. i use a 4790k with a 1070ti i get 120+fps in 1080p and 1440p but i dont really crank the settings up to ultra unless im using 1080p

If it's gifted then it's infinite price to performance.

It'll do fine in 4K as 4K is GPU bottlenecked.

For gaming, there is no significant real life performance difference between the ''older'' 7700k and the newest 8700k. However, for content editing, video compression and related workloads. There is a huge difference between 4 and 6 cores.

If you already have a Z170 or Z270 board, and the 7700K is $200 or less, sure it's a good buy. Not so much otherwise.
