Worth upgrading GPU at the time?

Go to solution Solved by Daniel644,

i'd wait, rumors have it the GPU manufactures have a MASSIVE stock pile of 10 series GPU's and prices should be crashing in the next month or 2 as they try to clear the inventory getting ready for the 11 series cards.

Basically Nvidia produced FAR to many GPU cores due to overestimating the mining demand and so there is like a MILLION+ GPU cores that will be turned into cards to sell (if they aren't already) so prices should nose dive, plus as miners jump ship they will start fire-selling there GPU's.

Hi everyone!

I'm currently running with a setup that consists of a Gtx 950 and a 1080p 144Hz monitor. The problem is that I can't have the video settings that I want on the majority of my games and they're running at low FPS.

I have money, so I wonder if it's worth it to spend like 725 usd for a Gtx 1080. I've heard that Nvidia might be releasing their new mainstream Gpu's this autumn. So I'm also wondering if I should wait for them to be released so that the price drops on the 1080's.

I would say wait for next gen, so those cards get released or 10 series cards go down in price.

hi.

Perfect example of doing things at the wrong time. High demand: low supply and hesitates in increasing it. Low demand: finally increased production

Back 2016 I got one of the first GTX 1080 non FE cards out. The card performed badly for the first 6 months on some games. It ran flawlessly on others. It was a driver issue.

I needed a GTX 1080 because my GTX 980 ti struggled at 3440X1440 resolution. It was fine at 2560X1440.

With a 1080 144hz monitor you have a few currant gen cards that will meet your needs.

Hopefully prices will be dropping very soon & the fun will begin.

I want another GTX 1080 ti. I want to pay $550.00 US. I paid $684.00 for my first GTX 980 ti & $453.00 for my second, bought at the time the GTX 1080 came out.

Very soon I will be camping out on the Newegg site.  I suggest you plan a camping trip as well.

New rumors say Nvidia will delay the release of their new generation in order to move that surplus of current cards first.  However, that shows that Nvidia isn't going to do a price drop right away as they want to sell that surplus at MSRP.

$725 is way high for a used 1080, you might be able to find a new 1080 Ti on sale for that!

What I would do is sell your 950 and buy a used 1060, and use that 1060 until the new cards are released and the initial price hikes calm down, so about 6-12 months.

@GerrOver here in Sweden, a brand new 1080 retails at about 700 usd and a 1080 ti costs 970 usd. A used 1080 on the other hand costs 470 usd
