Should I get an RX 580 8GB or RX Vega 56? Or wait for gpu prices to drop?

AMD options only (Freesync 144hz)

For reference, here is my work in progress build.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/rssyFt

So I wanted to build a PC that would be really high quality but at the same time bang for its buck.

One things I am not sure about is the price of GPUs as related to market demands as well as to performance.

I really wanted to get the RX vega 56, but am not sure if the extra $150 is worth it.

TLDR I just want some info on the AMD graphics card market (besides only knowing bitcoin mining is becoming less popular) .

+ some info about comparison of mid range AMD graphics cards.

Vega 56 is just not worth buying atm. Sure you can use Freesync, but that's only useful when frame rates are below 144Hz. If you get the 1070ti (slightly faster than V56), your frame rates will stay higher for longer in the first place.

RX 580 is priced competitively to its Green competitor, while you can use Freesync. I'd go for the RX 580 or 1070ti here.

Would you recommend waiting to get a gpu though? Is the market going down because of bitcoin or something else?

In addition, would you recommend going to China to get a GPU? Would it be cheaper there since it is a part?

Nah it wont. Cards are still at around MSRP (much cheaper than before, but still) because retailers bought the graphics cards at inflated prices from card manufacturers and are unwilling to sell them at cheaper prices because they will lose money. The next drop should come when the 1160 comes out, in which retailers have to hammer the prices down no matter they like it or not.

You dont sound like you know about graphics cards too much, so I'd say no. It's possible you get ripped off there.

Expensive. You're better off picking up a prebuilt or boutique build during sales. Better performance, better prices, less hassle.

Could you specify the exact name of the 1160? Also how low will prices get after that?

Really? Do you have any suggestions for similar specs at around the same price point? ($1200 excluding monitor)

1160 isnt out yet. Heck not even 1180, the first card of the series, has been officially announced. I'm talking about the currently available GTX 1060's successor.

As for how low... who knows? 1160 wont come until the end of this year (the most optimistic prediction), so it's too far in the future to predict

Would you say it would be easier to not get scammed if I know Chinese? I guess you were assuming I did not, sorry for not specifying.

lol I know Chinese myself, but even then I need my friend (who spent years poking around there) to save my ass countless times.

Dell/Alienware regularly does sales with gtx 1080 machines for around $1200 or a 570/580 machine for around $800. Their competitors generally have similar priced sales (acer, hp, etc.). It's better to get them during sales for pricing the components generally can't be had for by builders and then add whatever you want to it later.

Or you can also catch sales on boutique sellers like ibuypower. It can get pretty close to retail pricing sometimes but without the hassle and sometimes added "bonus items/upgrades" that will make it a bargain. You just gotta keep an eye out.

If you really want a bank for buck though you might just get a laptop. Dell had their gaming one with an i7, gtx 1060, and an ssd for around $800. Or you could go with a 144hz gtx 1070 model for around $1200 (monitor included). They perform pretty great.
