Which CPU should I buy

Im planning on getting a new CPU since my current one is an i3 7100, the problem is it has 2c/4t, so Im looking to upgrade, Im staying on 7th gen since switching my mono and CPU would be way out of my budget, my question is; I normally play FPS games, so should I buy the i5 6600 or i7 7700 (Both locked since I don't overclock), remember I am not switching my processor fo 4 years or more when I uy this, so I need it to be futureproof, so again, is the 100$ more worth it for future proofing?

Future proofing is a bad ideology and you should not use that term.

7700k (dont waste your money on a non K variant) is a great gaming CPU, and you will be fine with that for years to come. If you do any multitasking AND gaming, you should still be fine for the most part. You will NOT be able to stream and game at a decent experince without TONS of tinkering.

That in USD right? I see you used the dollar sign at first. I'd convert them to euros and discuss according to Spanish prices. In other words, 177 for the 6600, 234 for the 7700

considering the 6 core i5-8400 cost €164 while there are plenty of B360 motherboards that cost under €90 (I exclude those I consider bad), the 7700 isn't a good choice imo. You will get a whole mobo + CPU set to sell if you buy the 8400 so you can get back some of the cost a bit, while having more cores to last through the 4 years of time.

The i3-8100 cost 108, adding in the cost of a motherboard it costs just under 200 to buy. This one cost about the same as buying the 6600, since you've got a mobo to sell if you go for the 8100.

If you want this upgrade to last 4 years (maybe longer, since FPS games arent too difficult to run), then I prefer a new 8400 and mobo set. If you just dont bother selling stuff, get the 6600.

so there's less reason to buy 6600 or 7700 :P

Ok so you play alot of fps games but many fps games don't hit too hard on a cpu so IMO a i5 7500 is more than enough TBH and it costs an ok amount also the only thing you should future proof IMO is a PSU unless if you will get games on release which are sometimes poorly optimized.

As @Jurrunio said, go for the newer 8th gen cpu's and get it for better performance and cheaper price. I3 8100 or i5 8400. Even though you only play fps games, consider the performance to value ratio or the other way around.

300€ for CPU + Board, right??

How about this:

170€ or so:

https://geizhals.de/amd-ryzen-5-2600-yd2600bbafbox-a1804462.html?hloc=de

130€ or so:
https://geizhals.de/msi-x470-gaming-plus-7b79-002r-a1803970.html?hloc=de

IF you know someone with an 1000er Ryzen (doesn't matter wich), you can go for an older 300 series Board, lend the CPU for like 5min to make a BIOS Update.

No.

Neither

First, google "TLBleed". That's  feature of Intel CPUs where the second thread can access things from the first one. Wich allows attackers to attack and steal your Steam Account (probably).

You won't survive 4 Years witn an ancient 4 Core/8 Thread CPU that you can buy since 2009. At least 6 are recommended in 2018 as there already are games that run like shit on 4 Cores.

Future Proof? With a 4 Core? Intel?
SRYSLY?!
That's an Oxmoron and you contradicted yourself two times already.

Especially since there is absolute no reason whatsoever for Coffee Lake to not run on the 200 series Boards...

And paying 270€ for a 4 Core is stupid, because:

https://geizhals.de/amd-ryzen-7-2700-yd2700bbafbox-a1804458.html

That's an 8 Core. New. For less than 270€ at a couple of dealers...

The Time of 4 Cores is over, now its time for more than 4 Cores to shine.

If you want to "future Proof"; you get the 2700 with a Board. And sell the stuff you have (probably find someone who pays 100€ or more), to get something that's actually good.
