What people?

You want a good 550W PSU, not a crappy 750W one. The 80+ rating says nothing about how good it is, only how efficient it is during specific loads.

Brand doesn't matter. Get a nice 550W unit Tier 2 and above from the Tier List listed below in my sig.

Doesn't seem like anyone has said you should get a 750W PSU.

The brand doesn't matter, the product does. All brands are equally capable of selling crap, and equally capable of selling good stuff.

Depending on what's available and the prices, GX-F, Whisper M, Formula, Focus Gold, Focus Plus Gold, RMx or Straight Power 11.

I’m getting a r9 290x Lightning gpu but I only have a 600w bronze psu people said I should get a psu about 750w what would you recommend

does it it have to be gold or something or can it be bronze?

im looking at

evga super nova nex750b psu

Corsair cx 750 m

A 600W PSU would be fine for a 290X if it were of decent quality, but I'd not use that EVGA unit you have.

This EVGA GQ happens to be a pretty good price right now

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

Not as good as the TXM that replaces it. Or the GQ I linked.

Where are you buying from? That PSU should be more expensive than the one I linked. You also really do not need 750W unless you add another card.
