When I read that, I was like "holy shit, that's a LOT", but then I saw your location and I was like "oh, that's why."

It's not really that much at all. Around $11.50 USD an hour (NZD has gone down substantially in value). Usually people get paid around $17/hr min, but it can be as high as $20/hr depending on the area for a low wage worker. Apprentices and skilled labourers get paid around $21/hr.

Puft. Not to be rude but that's it? Don't know if we New Yorkers (the city) are terribly rich or Canadians are terribly poor

I think I said that as an estimate at the time, not sure where I got that from. People who live in US generally need a lot of money to spend a lot of money. Usually prices are adjusted for pay based on area, so if you travel to another place, things might seem cheaper for your pay, but net savings might be the same. IDK If I'm explaining this right.

50k Canadian converted to usd is  38,338 USD. that is pitiful by new yorker standard.

im just thinking that LMG staff should be earning upwards of 75k+ USD. that sounds about right considering that LMG probably generates millions in revenue each year. My engineering classmates earn 75k+ straight out of college so.... yeah, i think 75k is the right ballpark.

Video editing isn't really a university qualification though -  I guess there's a little disparity between NZ and the US on the payroll for video editors. I'm not so sure about raking in millions for LMG. Maybe a million gross - most of the income goes back into the company. I guess this stuff is a little foggy since we don't know.

No, LMG definitely is making millions. 10 millions a year perhaps.

10 million seems a little much. Surely YT doesn't give them near as much.

You do know channels like PewDiePie  make 12 million a year right? I don't even see advertising on his channel.

Bad comparison - he also gets a factor of 10x or more views per video over LTT.

Being a YouTuber is not an ideal career option. Many people are either Actors, such as Logan Paul, or have previous qualifications and experience. Jumping straight into committing to a YouTube or Twitch channel is a difficult and often very futile. Most successful channels are quite old and have been at it for a while - or are just plain lucky.

I recall a newspaper article about a young individual who grosses around 400NZD (~300USD) per week playing overwatch on Twitch - that is less than minimum wage and if that's the mark for success, it's not much - there's just better stuff to do with your time if you would like to make money.

Best thing to do, if you would like to start a channel (as a career), is build up an audience while working full-time or, if you are young, under your parents roof. Emphasise quality over quantity and post on a regular schedule. Have something very niche - for example like Epic Meal Time, or LinusTechTips. Set your expectations low and put the extra yards in and you might make it, but it is very risky for little reward.

I know and agree with what you said. But I was saying that because he wanted to work for Linus.

Probably an Art Degree then. I hear they do video editing as part.

There are actual degree programs in which you learn and specialize in video editing. It would be either under the school of arts, or school of business, depending on the specific university, and the specific focus of your degree.
