Should I go for the i9 7980xe after the release of the AMD 32 cores CPU? (and I agree with people telling the price would have come down to match the market)

Prices of new CPUs barely ever fall , even after a new release (you can still buy retail 2nd gen i7s for 300$ ). And i doubt many people bought the 7980xe at all , and even less are going to sell

Why would you get the 7980XE over say a 1950X? Which is currently on sale for like $750 I think

What are you using it for?

Threadripper CAN game, but not as well as 7980.  Intel does still have higher single core and IPC.

If you need something in this Area, the AMD Threadripper is just the better CPU!
There is no reason to get the Intel. Especially since you can use ECC on the TR4 Plattform with all CPUs.

And that is something you should spend money on if you want to do work with it. It gives you the tiny bit of protection against memory errors.

No, Intel has higher clock rates, the IPC isn't that much better these days.

 

But also is less efficient than Ryzen under Workloads. Something people don't seem to talk about these days. I wonder why...

It's not garbage but it's probably not the right fit for the OP. 

 

I don't think that someone running it on water delidded at 4.6Ghz on every core is thinking that they have a garbage CPU. Certainly not because it pulls more from the wall than Threadripper.

 

That being said, people who know what to do with that CPU and how to let it spread it's wings don't need to go to forums and ask.

I wouldn’t even get any i9 compared to Threadripper’s current pricing.

 

You can get a TR-1950X for $750. Compared to Intel’s prices, that is an absurd value for what is like the second or third most powerful CPU on the consumer market.

 

Threadripper is already the better buy at 16 cores if you need these kinds of CPUs.

They have different strengths and weaknesses. If you need a 7980XE, get it. If the cheaper threadripper will do, get it. Don't expect the 7980XE at threadripper prices. There may be some fluctuations in pricing, but they don't normally shift much.

Its Garbage exactly because of that.

 

You pay two grand for a CPU to mod it/void the warranty and risk killing the CPU in the process. 
Yeah, totally makes sense.

Especially if you can have a CPU that is soldered for less.

 

The Threadrpper 1950x is less than half of the price of the 7980XE!

We are talking about ~2000€ for the Intel vs. ~800€ for the AMD. Yeah, totally get the more expensive and not soldered CPU...

The price wouldn't drop. like when the i9 7980xe and the 1950x were released the i7 6950x didn't come down, it is still on the 1,5k. Nether did the 7700k fall as 8700k came
