Best future-proof CPU strictly for gaming

Hey, I am looking into upgrading my CPU to something that is for the most part future-proof. Im not into overclocking, so that rules out all of Intel's K series chips and as mentioned in the title, i would be only using it for gaming.

I'm still using my i7-3770 from late 2012 so a current generation i5/i7 would do you good for a LONG while.

You can get the i7 8700 with a cheap B360 motherboard that should last you for a while. But if you want, you can also get a AMD Ryzen 7 2700 and pair it with a A320 motherboard. Since you are only gaming, I would recommend the i7 8700.

That would be a huge waste. B350 boards aren't that much more expensive, and can overclock. However for best overclocking a X470 would be best.

What's your current CPU?

 

An 8700k/2700x will last really long but if you're not going to use the performance it's not worth getting them

my mini rig still has a 4790k in it and firestirke benchmarks at "better than 92% of results" so I dunno if modern cpus are that important for gaming

Actually , not much thing to discuss here since OP has no interest in overclocking.

 

Just pick 8700 and the cheapest mobo that support it. That's all lolz
