Can you even get an X99 chip for that price? The 5820K is the 'lowest end' chip on that board (I don't know all the Xeons on X99 off the top of my head, so there might be one in there too) and I can only find that i7 for 300 USD and up (which is like 200 GBP)

That's what I'm looking into. The Xeons. Unless he buys major used here's not gonna find a X99 chip that cheap.

Pretty much any desktop chip on the X99 platform will do the job for almost any current GPU. So yes. Particularly if you give it a little overclock.

Short answer: yes.

Long answer: The performance of the 5820K is like the 4790K, but with 6 cores. Which is a similar performance to a non overclocked Ryzen 5 1600. Very roughly, that is the performance you will get, which will pair nicely with a GTX 760.

Anyway, now that I am comparing this chip to the Ryzen 5, it is probably not a big price difference in general, so if in the long it will be worth it.. That will be up to you.

Also, it doesn't happen often CEX has sensible prices and eBay has none.
