Nvidia GPU drivers buggy for months

Hi all,

 

I usually update my nvidia drivers as soon as they are released. Ive found the recent drivers released in the last few months to all be buggy however.

 

Since driver version 387.92 every driver i download past that seems to cause buggy behaviour. Performance noticeably decreases. PUBG for example the mouse will flicker on the menu and performance dramatically decreases. Destiny 2 also has a flickering mouse and goes into borderless window and cannot be changed to full screen no matter what I try.

 

387.82 works flawlessly and i was wondering if anyone else has had these problems with the latest drivers? Or if there may be a fix that im unaware of. I cant find anything on the net so thought id give the forums a shot.

most people avoid this by not updating drivers every few weeks. I stayed on the same driver in most cases for 6 months to a year.

Honestly, no reason to update drivers unless you are having problems with a game and have exhausted all troubleshooting methods.

hmmmm interesting. I just used to upgrade constantly due to the performance upgrades you sometimes get in different games. It used to work fine up until all drivers past 387.92

Try uninstalling your GPU driver with DDU ( https://www.wagnardsoft.com/ ) and install an older version from Nvidia's Website.

If the drivers after 387.92 are buggy, then use drivers before that.

with nvidia and microsoft, going for the latest update will probably give more headaches than performance, you're constantly a beta tester

You're not alone btw, few guys in Guru3D and OCN have similar problem with post-390 drivers. Mostly performance drop compare to pre-390 but some experienced glitches and tdr issue. Some speculate it was caused by spectre fixed nvidia implemented but i myself didn't have this "performance dropping" issue with post-390. YMMV
