Free hardware worth the upgrade...

So at my company we roll out new hardware every 3-4 years, this year in my stack of old PC's I have some that I may want to swap out with my current setup but I dont know if it is worth it. my current setup is a 7700HQ, 16gb ram (alienware laptop) with a graphics amp 980ti. at work i have a few OEM boxes that I may grab because a full desktop CPU and the extra PCI lanes for the GPU may be nice for gaming

What I have:

-I7 3770

-I5 4690

-I5 6400

---all 16gb ram ddr3

you would think the I7 is the way to go but looking at benchmarks the 4690 may be the best choice for a gaming box

i'd pick the 3770 since it's the only one out of the 3 that won't choke in games with a 980ti.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X Heatsink: Gelid Phantom Black GPU: Palit RTX 3060 Ti Dual RAM: Corsair DDR4 2x8GB 3000Mhz mobo: Asus X570-P case: Fractal Design Define C PSU: Superflower Leadex Gold 650W

I feel like the I5 in game would be better with the clock speed in gaming

No. A 3770 would be better than a locked quad core i5.

The clock speed is basically the same. The 3770 is a much better option and will yield significantly better frame timings with much higher minimums.

Go with the 3770 unless you plan on doing emulation (where Haswell is a lot better per clock) or anything that will hit AVX
