What Motherboard Should I Get?

There are a number of motherboard options that I am considering for my PC, but I haven’t found a whole lot of useful information. My build is in an inverted be quiet! Dark Base Pro 900 (lots of space), with an Intel i7 8086K cooled by an NZXT Kraken X62, a ROG Strix 1080 Ti, G.Skill Ripjaws V 16GB (2x8GB) 3000MHz RAM, and a Corsair CX750M PSU (can always be upgraded). I’m not sure which of the following motherboards is the best choice: Asus ROG Strix Z370E, Asus ROG Maximus X Hero, Asus ROG Maximus X Code, and Asus ROG Maximus X Formula. I won’t have a custom watercooling loop, but may get one in the future. I’m most looking at the Code and Hero, and it is hard to tell the difference aside from price and aesthetics. I like PWM fan headers and RGB headers. Can you guys give me your recommendation out of these and why?

Desktop: Intel i7-8086K, Asus ROG Maximus X Code (probably, still can’t decide), NZXT Kraken X62 280mm, Asus ROG Strix 1080 Ti, G.Skill Ripjaws V 16GB (2 x 8GB) 3000MHz, Corsair CX750M PSU, be quiet! Dark Base Pro 900 Inverted, Samsung 960 Pro M.2 PCIe 500GB SSD, Samsung 850 Evo SATA 250GB SSD, WD Black 1TB HDD.

The X Code and X Formula look very nice. Most of the motherboard is covered by the plastic shroud which will hide all of the solder points and make the build look a lot better.

Just get the one that looks best for you. You wont benefit from the more expensive board's materials anyway.

so the 8086k is $420, and the 8700k is $330, what is the point of an extra $90 for a slightly binned CPU?

Directly comparing 8086K and 8700K shows that for a $100 (24%) price premium you get around a 5% performance improvement which drops to around 2% when both chips are overclocked
