Upgrading HDD size, What's the easiest way to do it

TheEpicCanadian

So I just bought a 2TB HDD to upgrade from my current 1TB and insted of having both in my system at once, I'd like to just take all the data from the 1TB and put it on my 2TB . Is there an easier way to do this other than just plugging in the 2tb and copy/pasting nearly 1tb of data from one to the other?

So i guess you have never herd of HDD cloning software?

Anyway yes there is a way to do it, use a bootable sector by sector cloning tool called Clonezilla. it will make an exact copy of a disk and put it onto another for you (your 1TB to 2TB) after it is finished wipe your 1TB as you no longer need it and format the remaining 1TB on the 2TB disk as it will be unformatted after the clone.

Wait, is he copying his OS? I thought it was just data :P There's no point in using cloning software for that :P

yeah, pay someone to do it for you.

I don't always have time to study, but when I do, I don't.

In that case, copy pasta. No point in using cloning software.

Nope.

Yes there is. Why reply with such a pointless post?

Use Acronis, or dd from a Linux Live CD (ubuntu comes with ntfs-3g so you can mount your NTFS drives.).
