Is it worth buying a new CPU?

Hello,

So I have been thinking about upgrading my CPU for a while now. I have a 4790K, which is fairly old. I see all there new features with new CPUs and I'm wondering whats the point? My Specs include a 850W power supply, GTX 1070 and 16 GB of Corsair Vengeance RAM. My CPU boost clocks to 4.4 GHZ, not overclocked. I was wondering should I upgrade? Should I wait? Should I just overclock my CPU? For reference, when under full load my CPU stays at or below 50C. I will add in info from a 3D Mark Benchmark. I am just not sure what I should do if anything at all.

Honestly I don't see the point for a performance perspective. It would probably be not worth the money. I mean if you really want to upgrade then go ahead as it's your money just know that it won't really help much if at all in gaming. If you have other tasks other than that then it may help.

If it's not causing any problems hold back the want, unless you got some spare money and just want a new CPU, DDR4, and Mobo. Get a 8700k is so then.

If you're happy with the performance you're currently getting there isn't much point upgrading. Thankfully, the CPU market is pretty competitive right now so it pays to wait.

As to if or not you should overclock it, you should have done that years ago when you first bought it.

if you're a gamer then i can safely say that this is plenty of CPU...and upgrading from this will not yield any significant framerate or frametimes improvements....no Ryzen CPU will perform better than this in games...and the 8700 or 8700K are only marginaly better but will likely improve gaming peformance in the long run...but you're probably better of waiting a couple more generations...i use a 4.2ghz 4770K and it's plenty for a GTX 1080 at 1440p high refresh gaming and VR.

No,

You should not upgrade a 4790k still rocks with a gtx 1070 don't worry about it, your good for a while still, upgrade cpu would be waste of money but if you just want to upgrade for fun i guess you can lol

YEah of course mann

Totally agree Keep the 4790k

I would say upgrade to 8700K only if you plan to go gtx 1080 ti with(or without) 144 hz monitor

if you really feel like treating yourself and you have some money to spend consider a new 1440p high refresh monitor instead or even better an oculus rift + touch bundle...dont waste your money on a platform upgrade for now, what you have is more than good enough.

I already have a 1440p 144hz monitor, I'm not sure if it makes a difference

no you are gaming on high settings at 90 to 120FPS in most games and im sure it runs well...i have a bit more GPU and i can add more anti-aliasing/cleaner images but gaming is stupid smooth and im sure it is for you as well...your monitor has Gsync?

the i7 4790k might be 4 years old but it still kicks ass your cpu usage may be high in games but still good for the gtx 1070. I personally have the i7 8700 non k and it might give better fps then the i7 4790k but games cant totally use coffee lakes cpu yet demanding game only go to 50%. keep the i7 4790k for another 2 years then upgrade use the money you've saved for the upgrade to upgrade to a new gpu maybe?
