Just keep on waiting for the next thing, or buy now. Only you would know. Do you require business/skool pc right now for this semester or this quarter tax payment, or can you wait. No one can tell you anything without knowing exactly what you do with any ole pc. Like I love to play Microsoft Solitaire, but my wife loves to render 4k video for biz.

9th Gen Intel might be November 2019. Maybe later.

There's nothing on the horizon at the moment. We're not sure when Nvidia's next GPUs are coming. It's at least several months off.

I need a video editing pc for my school projects (I edit 1080p footage from my eos m3). I also play beamng and occasionally fortnite. I already have an Asus Vivobook with a 7500u and 940mx but it can't seem to handle premiere pro without overheating. I mean, sure I can wait but I don't want to destroy my laptop any further.

8th gen is still quite new, and Nvidia just anounced that it will be a "long time" before we see the 11 series cards.

November 2019? That's a really loooooooong way to go. Nvidia's cards are rumoured to launch in July and be available at around September. But rumours are rumours, so they can't be 100% accurate.

Well Coffee lake just launched 3-4 months ago, and Nvidia said last night that we can expect to wait a while for the new cards.

But doesn't intel release cpus every october or something. I could be wrong. Maybe I should spend more and go Ryzen. B350 boards are more expensive here in Singapore. Graphics cards costs more too. The Zotac 1080 mini costs $590 usd here.

10nm is broken. 10nm+ is delayed, and 10nm++ is 2020 at the earliest.

Intel's 10nm is just a busted process. And that's just at the current information. "Mainstream" Icelake, which is 9th Gen Intel, could end up being Q1/Q2 2020.

The word is "Coffee Lake-R". We know nothing about what is coming. Slightly higher base clocks?

Oh, you mean the 8500 and 8600? Together with the laptop ones? Just wondering, what is the point of the 8600? It seems pointless with the existence of the 8500 and 8600k

They launched the 8400 & 8700k in October. By "launch", it was mostly a paper launch until December. There were like less than 1000 cpus in Europe at launch.

Just a cheap 8600 perform like a non overclocked 8600k, great for people who don't want to OC.

When I was building my 6700k rig a year ago (which I sold to a friend), everyone told me not to get the 7600 as it was "bad value" . Is it still the same with the 8600?

yeah, the 8600 non-k doesn't perform much faster than the 8400 while the 8700 performs better than the 8600k and costs about the same after cooler+mobo costs anyway.

8700 is actually the Price/Performance winner among the 8th Gen Intel stack, oddly enough. However, what do you plan to use? The more encoding you do, the more the Ryzen 7 gets more valuable.
