Build for Music Composition

So, I have a friend who is a dj and wants some help. Earlier today, we were joking about consoles, you know, the usual, when he brings up that he is planning a build. He isn't super techy so he was looking at a company to build it for him. I'd like to help him, building it myself, but I need some help editing the components. Idk what a dj/music composer needs, but the build included a GTX 1050 originally (he said he wanted a 30" ultrawide display, but I think the cpu's integrated graphics should run it). I'm thinking more of an external sound card. He also wants RGB (of course). Idk, I'd love to hear your suggestions, thanks!

  • CPU : Intel Core i7 8700K (He insisted he wasn't downgrading from an i7. I don't know much about coffee lake, but I don't know if it is overkill or it will bottleneck. Like, we all know a bunch of djs use macs perfectly)
  • CPU cooler: CoolerMaster MasterLiquid ML240L RGB ( I support him getting an AIO water block, but I'll talk him out of the RGB)
  • Memory: DDR4 Vengeance LPX 3000 16GB (2 x 8GB) (I'm cool with the 16GB, but idk if the clock speed is a bit high, as in overkill)
  • SSD : PNY C- a ton of numbers- 240GB (He's probably trying to get a cheap SSD, np here)
  • Graphics: MSI 1050 Ti 4GB (idk if he'll need this. Again, i think an external card would be better)
  • Case: CoolerMaster H500P (Could change imo)
  • Power Supply: EVGA 750W 80+ Gold (I'll check the wattage later)
  • Monitor: LG 34WK500-P 75Hz, 2560x1080 34" 21x9 Ultrawide

1050ti with an 8700k? Lol, no way in hell. You would want at least a 1070. Or, get a 7700k with a 1080.

No, don't get a 7700K. @AskTJ This isn't a gaming rig, the GPU doesn't really matter.

What's your budget, where are you located, and what programs does he use?

Make sure to quote me or tag me when responding to me, or I might not know you replied! Examples:

Buy whatever product is best for you, not what product is "best" for the market.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

Idk, he showed me today a mail that I believe was around $1200 USD

We're from Mexico so it was in pesos. I imported my pc's parts, I was planning so for his'. Lemme ask him about the programs he uses

Do you know what Programs & External Audio devices he is going to be using?

You're in a world of hurt with some of this stuff, so it's not a cut & dry suggestion list. (Good Motherboard is a must with this stuff.)

You will want to include a discrete gpu like a GTX 1050 or GTX 1050 Ti. While the integrated gpu can handle the job, a discrete gpu provides a much more responsive display.

Instead of an i7-8700K, use the locked i7-8700. Very similar stock performance but run much cooler at lighter loads. It means that an aio is not needed. A decent and quiet cooler like the H7 will do.

A 450W psu is more than enough for this sort of build. Something like a Corsair CX450M or CX450 would be do a good job. If you want something quieter a Seasonic Focus 450 Gold would be a good choice.

DDR4-2666 would be fine, especially with an i7-8700. But for this application pay attention the CAS (CL). You probably want a value no higher than 15 with DDR4-2666.

Motherboard will depend a bit on the external devices that will be controlled along with any expansion cards for audio interfacing.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.
