[Build Log] Walletripper - Titan V / 7980XE / SMA8-A

Hey guys!

Alrighty then, I've got another comission to do.

Here a couple of references of my previous builds.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fhTOVDKEVFU

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-ENpEXoBaw

https://imgur.com/a/XCKdSud

Part's that are already set in stone:

  • CPU: Intel 7980XE (pre-binned 4,6ghz)
  • GPU: Nvidia Titan V (yup...)
  • Case: Caselabs SMA8-A (with RGB Midplate)
  • Mobo: Asus Rampage VI Extreme
  • PSU: Corsair AX1600i (I know, this is way too much, I already told the client this decision will by frowned upon) Cables will be custom length by Cablemod
  • RAM: G.Skill 4x16GB 3200 CL14
  • FAN: EK Vardar 120ER RGB
  • SSD: Samsung 970 Pro 1TB
  • HDD: A couple o' 3TB WD Red
  • EKWB Waterblocks, Reservoir, Dual D5 Pumps, Tubing and Rads (1x 480, 2x 360)
  • Bykski fittings cause they work the best with Tube Sleeving (the client requested soft, but sleeved tubing, just like I showed in my tutorial here: https://imgur.com/a/nz8jE3F)
  • Fancy Stuff: Addressable RGBs by Cablemod

Let's just hope that I don't forget to make loads of pictures / videos. It's not everyday that you get to build such a monster. :)

Update 11.06.2018:

All parts are on their way! :)

Also, this baby has a Name now: "Walletripper". I think it's fitting.

Update 04.07.2018:

The case is assembled!

Pretty much everything arrived today! (Sadly CaseKing forgot to send me the fans so I can't mount any radiators yet :/)

Installed the waterblocks on the Mobo and the GPU, looking good so far!

Also: It seems like the AXi Pro Mesh Cablemod kit doesn't work with the AX1600i, it seems like u have to buy the RMi/RMx set, what a bummer.

Caselabs SMA8

Ah yes, the go-to case for any baller's build - or at least it seems so if someone watches relevant YT channels :D

I'm not a fan of soft tubing but your approach picked my interest.

And yeah, although 1600W for a single GPU system is overkill, let's not forget that it's an 18-core CPU overclocked to 4.6Ghz. If you OC the GPU as well and put them both on full load, I suspect it might take about 800-900W from the wall.

Also, I wish I'd see more Asus Rampage VI Apex than Extreme in builds like these but oh well :D

Storage: Samsung 960 EVO 1 TB M.2 NVME  |  PSU: In Win SIV 1065W

Cooling: Custom LC 2 x 360mm EK Radiators | EK D5 Pump | EK 250 Reservoir | EK RVE10 Monoblock | EK GPU Blocks & Backplates | Alphacool Fittings & Connectors | Alphacool Glass Tubing

Case: In Win Tou 2.0  |  Display: Alienware AW3418DW  |  Sound: Woo Audio WA8 Eclipse + Focal Utopia Headphones

Yup, I'm a big fan of Caselabs myself, however my wallet doesn't allow for such fun :D

With import to germany taxes + shipping + toll you are easiely @ roughly 800€.

I expected at peak 1kW from the wall, a 1,2kW psu would've been sufficient, but yeah, maybe he'll upgrade to dual (other) GPUs in the future.

Also: I dislike Hardtubing for client builds, upgrading parts or any modification to the core components is a hassle for someone who is not tech savy. Softtubing allows for easy modifications... BUT... the looks of it arn't to everyones taste.

I feel like I get the best of both worlds with tube sleeving. :)

Apex was on the table since the EKWB monoblock would've actually fit, however I actually forgot why we decided against it. (maybe the dimm slots? ..Dunno)

This may still be a valid option, I'll keep you uptodate.

I'm indifferent but there are literally only 3 cases that I would like to build in: In Win Tou 2.0, Singularity Computers Spectre and the MBX MKII. Fortunately for me, when I was starting building last year, the Spectre was not yet on the market and I didn't know about the existence of MBX so I had no problem choosing ;-)

But I get it why people like Caselabs. Extremely high quality and performance - this thing has what, about 1.5m in radiator space? :D

I've got 1x560, 1x480, 1x280 in mine and could still fit another 360 in the front xD

I have the EVGA 1600W and although people told me i was insane, its not that crazy. I was supposed to run a sli setup, but due to stock issues i went with single GPU and im pulling about 950W from the wall. I suspect that I would have pulled about 1300-1400W if I ran sli so it wasn't crazy at all. Although your client runs a Titan V, so I suspect hell put a bit less wattage than I do, but still.

Alrighty!

The SMA8-A (didn't know they had a new revision! Hot damn!) is purchased and now in delivery.

For the fans we chose EK Vardar 1150 PWMs (Let's be real, they look much better).

And for the HDDs we've decided to go for 4x internal 3TB WD Red, which we can use in a homeserver some later date. :)

Yah, the SMA8-A is nice. Of course they came out with it about 3 weeks after I ordered custom tempered glass for my SMA8 >.<*

Well that's unfortunate :/

I will mostly use default parts tho.

Sadly no RGB-Midplate :(

Alright! It's settled.

Since the "new" Intel CPU was a hoax and my client doesn't want to wait for the Threadripper 2 to come out we'll take the 7980XE.

Funfact: Sometime over the past 7 Days Nvidia increased the price of the Titan V from 3.000€ to 3.100€. Wellp ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. (I'll most likely make an unboxing for this card by itself. I don't have the opportunity to do stuff like this everyday. :D)

We'll be using the SMA8-A WITH RGB Midplate. I'll make it work, somehow.

Pretty much all parts are bought, I'll see what's missing once I start the build, lol.

Pictures will follow once the first parts arrive. :)

Updated the first Post.
