I just bought the Dell S2716dg (1440p 144hz) monitor and it is pretty amazing. The only problem is I'm not hitting 144hz in every single game. Although that may seem unreasonable I'm not use to not having the top performance possible. Would buying another 980 TI to match my current 980TI be a good option for trying to hit 144 fps in every game or should I just wait to replace my 980 TI with a newer generation card. Thanks.

If you can definitely buy a single new card. 980 Ti is around 1070 performance so it is definitely not bad, but many games don't scale properly and if you want 144 Hz in EVERY game, then get 1080 and above.

The ability to google properly is a skill of its own.

Not really, I'd just wait another 2 months and buy a GTX 1180 that will outpefrom the 980 Ti 2way SLI configuration across the board without giving you any of the many SLI headaches.

144 Hz in every game won’t be possible with two 980 Tis in SLI because:

- there are really some demanding games out there that require beefier hardware when playing on max settings.

- SLI is not widely supported anymore and with certain games you even end up with a performance that is worse than a single card.

The recommendation that is often given is to go for a higher end card instead of an SLI setup. So in that case you could take into consideration to go for a 1080 or 1080 Ti.

Or, if you are patiently enough, the next generation of cards, the 11 series, is lurking around the corner. By then you can either snatch up a 10 series at a lower price, or go straight for a high end 11 series GPU.

Depends on the games and cpu.

If the games can benifit and the cpu can handle it, I would do it.

Thats ehat ive always done for every generation since the 5xx series. Doesn’t work so well with current games and old cpus though.

Just do what everyone else thinks they are gonna do and wait for the hard to get 11xx series.

I'm not convinced even 1080Ti SLI would guarantee 1440p 144 Hz all the time... having used 980Ti SLI before, not really worth the trouble. Is the monitor G-sync? That in itself helps loads.

It is unreasonable and you're throwing money down the drain chasing such a goal. At higher framerates you tend to run into a CPU bottleneck anyway so more GPU power might not even help, as others have stated and provided reasons for SLI isn't a good choice anymore.

I play on a 1440p 165hz monitor and a single GTX 1080Ti isn't enough to hit 144hz in every single game. I usually get 120 FPS average (AT ULTRA MAX SETTINGS)
