8700K on Asrock Z270M-ITX/ac

Go to solution Solved by jonnyyyl,

Damn them.

Have been living under a rock for the past 8 months, and the world of tech has once again moved at blistering pace.

Been running 7700k work station for a while and saw the 8700K coming out

Managed to do some research about it apparently the Z270 board need a BIOs update, but it apparently still won't be a full backward compatibility?

I am currently running a Asrock Z270M-ITX/ac and saw that the latest BIOs update (http://www.asrock.com.tw/MB/Intel/Z270M-ITXac/index.asp#BIOS) made note of "1.Update Skylake CPU Microcode to revision C2 and Kabylake CPU Microcode to revision 84. (For CPU security update) 2.Improve memory compatibility."

My question is, will it work? and Can I OC the CPU perfectly fine on it?

Thanks

It is not supported. You need a z370 or 300 series chipsets to run 8th gen cpus. People have done bios hacks to get them to work on some z270 boards but they usually have issues and are done on the lower end 8th gen cpus.

No. You need a B360, H370, or Z370 board to run an 8th gen CPU.

but its an 8700k so DO NOT BUY ANYTHING OTHER THAN  a Z370 its a waste of your money

You need a hacked BIOS, which requires a BIOS programming tool to flash in and maybe some alterations to the socket itself? I've helped someone else do it when I travel to mainland China.

Sadly Linus didnt include this in his trip in China.
