windows 10

HI there. this is my first time building a pc. Lets get straight to the problem: I finished building, now I need to get a monitor etc. But, I don't know about windows. I don't have another pc with windows, so Idk what to do. My dvd drive is broke and not planning on replacing it, So I'm going to get a usb windows drive, but I have no clue if that will do the trick. Some advice? Thanks!

If you purchase a Windows License from a store, you should get either a Windows 10 USB Installer or a Windows 10 DVD. As long as your system supports booting from a USB (most systems nowadays do), it will work.

You need an 8GB USB and a Windows 10 .iso file. Use a tool such as RUFUS and mount the .iso file onto the USB.

Then, plug the USB into your computer, with a hard drive or SSD. If you can, I suggest installing Windows on an SSD for faster boot times.

Turn on your computer and enter the BIOS. Select the USB and you should see a small spinning circle. Then, you will be taken to the install screen and you can easily follow the prompts there.

This should help you.

hi.

Off topic, have you seen a system in the past ~5 years that doesn't support booting from USB? I haven't, but your comment made me curious.

Do you need Windows 10? There are other options in the Linux land that are free....

I've seen systems from 5 years ago where USB booting was theoretically supported, but whether or not it actually worked was hit or miss Not so much of an issue now.

My old-oldmobo from 2008 supports it. My current mobo from 2013 supports it. I'm fairly sure anything else than OEM pc's will support it.

I have an AMD 780 series chipset board that will hang 75% of the time when booting from USB. Doesn't matter if it was Windows, Linux, or MacOS.

Let me correct myself. Pretty sure any INTEL board will work unless its OEM. Even if its cheap and pretty shitty Abit board from 2008.
