Unable to extend my display for two monitors

I have two monitors and I wanted to set up a dual display.  My graphics card only has one DVI port so I bought a DVI splitter.  When I hook both monitors up Windows 10 will aromatically mirror them. I can't extend displays because Windows 10 can't detect my second monitor. Both monitors have a aspect ratio of 16:9. Please Help

^ this, what you need is a DP to DVI adapter, not a DVI splitter.
