Hello all,

So I am at a crossroads right now with my pc situation , I am looking to upgrade some hardware and looking to spend my money wisely with what platform I currently have . I typically just use my computer for gaming , nothing serious maybe some CSGO , WOW , Runescape , and such . Me and my brother built this computer in 2014 , with some used hardware that he aquired and had laying around . It was decent then , and is still okay now , but is lacking some on performance side i would say . I have recently found and interest in the hobby of computer building , and hardware . So i came here for some advice , If you can . Give me some advice on the best upgrades that i can make . I like the current platform i have , i know there is some room for improvement . That's why im here , I do no wish to change the MB or the CPU because they fit my lifestyle rather well . If any of you could give me some advice one some note worthy upgrades , like best bang for my buck , i would greatly appreciate it! My budget is about 500$ , and i know i cant build a computer to this level that i currently have for that , so i want to try and upgrade what i have .

Current pc specs :
Processor - AMD x1090t 3.2 Ghz
Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-80XA-UD3 3.0 AM3+
RAM- Corsair Vengeance 1600 ddr3 4GB x2 Total =8
Cooling - Stock cpu cooling fan
Case - haggard cheap coolermasters
Powersupply- 800w Thermaltake
Gpu- EVGA GTX 760
Moniter - Dell U2410 Ultra sharp 60hz 1920x1200
2nd moniter - Ativa , not sure on model but is 22 inch , non HD junk.
Sound - Integrated

I know you don't want to hear it but plough that money into a new board and CPU for a start.

It's all about the foundations you build on. And the AMD is SHITE. :/

Trust me i completely respect your opinion , And i will consider looking into any and every opinion i get here . The only thing is , the CPU itself has been great to me , i know its out dated . The board has also served its purpose . What would be a decent cost efficient upgrade for those pieces of hardware?

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/DbVmvV this would be a really good upgrade for the platform if that is what you want to do. You could then save up for a better graphics card down the road.

Very awesome , thanks so much . Exactly the type of advice i was looking for .

Uhm... the phenom II is pretty old but back in the day it wasn't bad at all.

With that said, it's true that a gpu upgrade wouldn't be as effective on this platform, especially in cpu heavy games like csgo.

@crapshooter if you're looking for a cheap upgrade that will make a noticeable difference though you should first and foremost buy an ssd. The difference in everyday use is night and day, even though it won't boost your game performance much.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

sudo chmod -R 000 /*

Try getting a used R9 290x or an GTX 780/ti. But your really should move away from that cpu. Like move to a ddr4 plattform of sorts.

Yes i know , the MB never had the best reviews to start with , and its now 2018 , and im running DDR3 so i know its limited . That's why i came here , Just because i wanted to keep the current CPU and Board does not mean its cost Efficient .

Yes but we aren't talking about many years ago.

Probably gaming or helping technophobes with tech...

@Brooksie359 gave you two very good options. You can be om the lookout for the two GPUs i suggested as they go for rather cheap and perform like the 1060 6GB but at much lower cost

A bit over but try this mate. 8th gen CPU, 6 cores, dual channel DDR4 modern premium RAM, GPU more than enough for what you want etc :)

You all gave great advice ! i appreciate it all , right now i am seeing much more ram usage with my multi tasking , the x6 does do well for its age . But i think you all are correct a MB and CPU , and RAM , upgrade will be better for me in the long run . Can you guys recommend any good benchmark programs that are free?
