My wife has a macbook that is a few years old now nut hasnt been used very much.  Recently she started an update to get to the new MacOS and the computer had some sort of error while updating

It now will not boot and gives this screen when powered on. Is there anything we can to to save it? She had pictures on the laptop that sge doesnt want to lose

Did she make back-ups (time machine)? Are the pictures stored in iCloud Photos?

If not, you'll have to create a bootable macOS USB stick and perform a reinstall. DON'T FORMAT THE DISK, just click the reinstall macOS option.

It'll reload the OS while leaving the files intact.

Alternatively, boot Linux and copy the files to a USB disk.

Try holding the Apple Key + R when it is powered on. This will hopefully put it in recovery mode. You should be able to boot into the installer. THIS WILL BE A LONG PROCESS ONCE STARTED, DO NOT PANIC.

Okay. Good luck.

That appears to have fixed it

Thank you

Im usless with macOS
