Hand Me Down Build

So I might have a few PC parts handed to me as my friend is upgrading his build from an FX 6300 to either an i5 3570k or 4690k. So ill be getting his spare parts. Ill be needing a few things. A case, a PSU, possibly a cooler (depends if I can mount an FM1 cooler on an AM3+ board) and a Windows 10 license. Ill see if I can squeeze a $100 to $150 budget on this as the rest is either a hand me down or being reused from my current PC). Im also willing to go to unconventional routes for the case if I have to 

 

What I currently have/ will have: 

4GBX2 1600 Mhz DDR3 

1 TB WD Blue 

Some sort of FM1 cooler (Should be beefy enough for the FX) 

The stock cooler of the FX itself (Id rather not use it) 

GT 1030

Don't use any stock cooler on the FX chip. I would just get a decent air cooler as those chips run pretty hot.

 

You can run Windows unactivated until you can afford a key, it's not something you really have to stress about. The only differences are you can't personalize, and there's a watermark in the corner of your screen.

i was under the impression that the fx coolers were good?

@Crunchy Dragon Well the stock cooler of my FM1 build is actually really beefy so I wouldn't know if FM1 could mount to AM3+. As for Windows id like to run activated

Well thats for the Wraith coolers on the last FX ones. The normal one is terrible . My FM1 stock cooler is significantly larger and beefier than the stock FX one

Well thats for the Wraith coolers on the last FX ones. The normal one is terrible . My FM1 stock cooler is significantly larger and beefier than the stock FX one  

at any rate, no i don't think the fm coolers are compatible with the AM ones

they scream your ears off, they will also keep the chip "cool" at stock with the lower end ones like the 6300 afaik. my 6300 is under an ARCTIC Alpine 64 GT which keeps it cool enough to not kill itself, its about as good as the stock cooler id think but a lot quieter.

 

OP you can get win 10 keys for cheap of G2A, Reddit or similar or just run with no activation, for the PSU id probably get the CX450 and then you can get some case you dont hate and that isnt super choked off the front. the Fractal Focus G might be in your budget, its a decent case

Ill consider it, 450W is a tad bit concerning but then again im running a GT 1030 so I think ill be fine

450W gets you a long way, its also a cheap and decent unit

I've heard reports of the FX coolers being unable to sufficiently cool the CPU.

*shrug* ok i haven't personally used any FX processors so it is all hearsay for me.

FM1 mounts to AM3+ just fine, though unless you have the heatpipe stock cooler or a wraith i'd just spend $10 for an aidos black.

Ill see how well my A6 3650's stock cooler does with the FX. I have confidence it can tame the FX 6300 as it can take the 112W TDP of my A6 3650 and keep it cool (Like 46C and barely audible).
