I have Mint now & was wondering how TrueOS compares... I don't do anything like diting, just a normal user...

Stick with what you have, freeBSD has far less support than even linux and unless you're doing some advanced storage configurations you won't see any advantages.

Yeah, for normal computer user operation, Mint is pretty good for that.

 

FreeBSD is more the realm of SAN setups.  At least what I seen with flavors of it on netApps.  And, its command syntax is not the friendliest on netApp hardware.

Linux Mint has worked great for us, these past few years.

My wife does professional photo processing with hers, and never updates, quite satisfied with a very functional  OS.

I used mine for years but have different habits, always updating and frequently searching out programs not in the main PPAs. Mine worked fine, too.

In past year, I've switched to MX-16, then MX-17, Debian based, too. Installed very easily alongside other distros. Worked out of the box, so to speak... ...download *.iso, write to thumb drive, run live, then install.

   By the way, Linux Mint's Mintstick, usb formatter and image writer, works like a lucky charm for me. I install it on other OSes.
