TBH, unless youre on a high end competitive team, I wouldnt worry about the 4g backup then if its only for that reason. Just my opinion.

Hi all,

I currently have the Telstra (my isp) Frontier Modem Router for my home network. As most people, I had planned to switch it out for a 3rd party Modem Router, such as D-Link or Netgear, but I have run into a small issue. The Telstra Frontier has a SIM card in it, with built in 4G backup, so that when the landline drops, it automatically switches over to 4G. I can't find any Modem Routers that offer 4G backup such as this one, and can not justify spending $500 (AUD) on a downgrade.

So I guess the question is, should I buy a 3rd party Modem Router (without 4G backup) or not, or could anybody find a reputeable 3rd party modem router with 4G as well?

Regards, Vizz.

Really having a back up source of internet is something only you can determine if you need. Do you have mission critical tasks that you do/perform that require to have a 24/7 connection with zero downtime? Or is it just a comfort feature offered?

I would just have phone nearby with wireless hotspot configure if you are really worry about leaving your mate hanging. To be fair, it just a game, unless you're internet discounted every hour.

I have been on NBN (FTTP) for around 2 years now, i didn't really have any downtime that was due to nbn network since, especially during peak hours. I have around 10 downtime which wasn't longer than 15 mins. I have more, but this was during the night or during the day.
