Please, don't buy an AMD GPU for Mantle. At this point Mantle is just vaporware. We have no evidence it even exists, let alone proof that it provides a noticeable performance boost.

Personally I'd get a 780. Shadowplay, Shield streaming etc..

While we do have some proof it exists we still have no performance numbers and I generally agree with you. As it looks now the GTX780 provides a faster card, that runs more quiet with better temps and consuming less power, and on top of this comes with a bunch of features that has already proved their worth like Shadowplay, shield streaming etc as Whiskers mentions.

Which we dont know if its a good thing or a bad thing at this point in time.

I would say get a 780 if you need i right now but if he can wait which i would recommend then see what the new year and mantle bring to the table.

We have no proof. The only thing we've got at this point is AMD saying "Oh, it exists guys. Trust us!" :(

Not defending mantle but I'm pretty sure there are some demos of it

I don't consider that proof. :P

I think of proof as being tangible evidence we can see for ourselves. Not just a couple of claims made by a game developer and AMD's PR department.

I think the fact that AMD and several AAA game developers have said that they are working with Mantle could be considered proof. But then again I don't really care because I'll stick with NVIDIA anyways. :D

There is a whole array of reasons as to why you should get an R9 290, I'm talking about non-reference models of course, since they cost the same and perform much better>.
Same thing for the 780, you should avoid getting the reference models, as they overclock much worse than the custom models, run hotter and louder.

Just to throw at you a few reasons why one might buy an R9 290, it has 4GB of VRAM, supports AMD exclusive features like True Audio, Mantle, HDAO, GameStream, 6 monitor eyefinity, OpenCL, DirectCompute, unlocked voltage for overclocking, BF4 game bundle and TressFX 2.0.

Again, proof that it supposedly exists. But once again we only have their word for that.

As for the performance boosts we'll get... well, it's still anyone's guess. 1%? 10%? 50%? How do the performance boosts vary between GPUs? How do they vary between games?

I just don't get why they're being so secretive. If Mantle is really so great, why don't they build up hype by showing us the benefits it'll provide? :(

I absolutely agree with your point, and that's why I said in another thread that the performance increase we'd see could either be 3% or 100% or even beyond that, however I personally think it will be closer to the first option. All talk and no show indeed.
