I've recently installed a new mobo, CPU and RAM to my PC and since then - my Windows 10 licence keeps failing with the error code: 0x803F7001.

W10 product key is tied to the motherboard S/N. if the S/N changes, so too must the windows key (unless you have the retail version of windows).

Hey, welcome to the Forum. :)

There are many ways to activate your license but, your best bet is probably Microsoft live chat or Phone activation.

Unless you had a Microsoft account connected already because then, you should be able to just log in and activate your machine.

I'm pretty sure you can just request a new license via live chat or through the phone.

that doesn't always go well. if it was part for part, maybe you'd be able to plead a case, but if you went from say an Gigabyte board to an Asus board... you're not likely to get that new key.

ONLY if he has a Retail license of Windows 10. If he has OEM license, than it is not transferable. It is locked to the motherboard it is first installed on. Hence why the OEM licenses are cheaper.

I actually had the OEM key, and i went fine from an ASUS z170 mobo to a Gigabyte b350, so not only the mobo was changed, also the cpu and chipset. I just had to go to the microsoft web page and deactivate windows on the first computer, then activate it on the new one.
