HDMI vs DisplayPort

DrThots

I just received my AOC 24" 75hz 1ms monitor. Thing is, DP won't give me a signal to my computer. I run a gtx 1060, so I decided to try out the HDMI port. Funny enough, it works. Now my question is, does HDMI support 75hz+ and If so, what's so good about Display Port? If display port has a good reason to be better than HDMI, I will purchase a VGA to DP because my old (second monitor) only allows VGA.

up until recently, HDMI didn't allow 60hz 4K video. that is the only difference that i can think of.

If the resolution and refresh rate doesn't need more bandwidth than the interface can provide, it can use that resolution and refresh rate.

The thing between DisplayPort vs. HDMI appears to be largely a manufacturer issue, not a consumer one. HDMI requires royalty payments whereas DisplayPort is royalty free. Otherwise the only consumer facing feature DP has over HDMI is multi-stream transport so you can daisy chain monitors if they also support the feature

If possible you should always use DisplayPort.

But problem is, it doesn't give me a signal. I've tried turning off my pc for 30 seconds unplugging all my monitor stuff, turning it back on. I've tried just unplugging power off, letting it finish it power cycle and plugging it back in but it hasn't worked. It's a brand new monitor.

eh.. DP has some downsides as well.. IMO the only standard that should be less preferred than others is VGA :P

i've done worse to HDMI than 75Hz 1080p, as long as the display supports its features trough HDMI, and the computer supports outputting those over HDMI, there's nothing wrong with HDMI.

So HDMI can run a refresh rate of 75+ on a https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B015510R4M/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ?

Play around with the buttons on the bottom-right edge of the screen's bezel (down near the power button/switch) until one of them shows a list of the inputs you can cycle through. Start with the one furthest on the left that should have an icon that looks like a box with two arrows pointing into it.

Yes i see a HDMI and DP and d-sub or whatever its called. Now how do I change it to DP? Do I click on DP, quickly unplug my hdmi and plug in the DP

Once that little screen is up, press the same button used to bring it up until the selection is over the option you want (DP in this case) and then let it wait a few seconds as it switches input to DP, at which point if you've got a DP cable connected between the monitor and computer a video signal should be shown.

And some monitors are weird jerks with DisplayPort.  My Asus PB278Q, when turned off or in standby on DisplayPort, will let the OS think that the monitor is disconnected ENTIRELY.  This results in Windows rearranging icons and windows as it assumes it must move things to other screens.  I literally use it on HDMI only for that reason alone.  But it's a 60hz panel only so that doesn't really matter/

Are there any benefits of connecting two display ports at the same time in the same monitors. and is it the same benefit if i connect a VGA, hdmi AND DP all at once to my computer? Will it give better image?
