I wanted to know whether I can build a diy translator using a old smartphone instead of a rassbery pi(cause recycling and I am almost broke) and if so how can I do so?

Well, I can't really help I doubt you can really do much with an old smartphone, but I have no idea. GL

Get old smartphone... open google, type google translate, open it... done you got yourself a DIY translator.

You should be more specific. What should your system do? Of course you can just run an self developed app on that smartphone using Google's Cloud Translation API. Or are you suggesting that you want to develop your very own translation logic – in that case: study artificial intelligence for a few years and then come back. That is unless you're fine with crude translations. You can go the old school route and just use a huge dictionary db but then you're missing out on grammar and context.

Use the quote function when answering! Mark people directly if you want an answer from them!
