Why is the LTT forum "Like" button a heart? Every time someone likes my post it makes me feel that they liked it a little too much, you know what im saying?

but in doing so would require a thumbs down to show equality.

Plus if you like someone would you give them a heart shaped card or a thumbs up card?

Depends on what kind of "like" we are talking about. I don't know the english equvailents, but at least in my country there is a dozen words for different kinds of likings.

I'd give a thumbs up shaped card with a heart printed on it but it's one of those slideout ones and it gives you the little like menu

yeah it used to be a thumbs up icon, that one i would say it's a better fit for "like" than "love"

The issue I see with the thumbs up is people would then expect a thumbs down, while would be useful at times I can see why LMG wouldn't want to implement it.

By having a heart as a like button, there can only be requests for a thumbs down option but really no "demand" for it. It's some stupid psychological bs that has been forced on us for years thanks to sites like FB and YT. IMO I think Like and Agree should be merged as one, then you could use the checkmark as a icon.

Where is the broken heat one then? And the crying and whatever would be opposite the informative button.

The heart is also widely used for likes on many other platforms, especially famous ones such as Twitter or Instagram.

I am pretty sure many people associate the heart with like right now.

I know of the 2 thumbs up trademark by Ebert but I don't fully understand it, it seems to be done towards Disney mostly.

Also https://www.quora.com/Does-Facebook-own-any-intellectual-property-rights-for-the-thumbs-up-Like-button Which makes sense, because using thumbs up in real life has been done for years (and online before places like FB), it's like copyrighting walking because of a picture...

If someone does have a copyright towards the thumbs up/down (like the smiley face) here's my opinion on those cash grab only rights:
