How product key change?

I recently realized the product change into another form when I activate it. It turned into a form that we can't reuse anymore, but can anyone here tell me how this works?

It is now housed on your microsoft ID, so when you deactivate your current pc, and log in to a new one you should be able to activate it like that.

If this is Windows 10 the key cannot be transferred any more, at least not easily as the key is bound to the motherboard via Microsoft's activation servers. Otherwise you should be able to use a program like JellyBean key finder to extract the product key.

Did you use an OEM key?

If its retail key, you can request that MS support unbinds it from account. OEM keys are locked as they are supposed to be used on machine first activated with.
